They're not even in the same league (fwiw, I've also owned the G1, Hero, Desire & One X so I've experienced HTC's successes and lows!). Build quality is exceptional, sound and screen quality is incredible and you have stoarage expansion options with SD card (got a 64Gb in mine but it'll take up to 128Gb). Battery life is fantastic, I could get 2 days out of mine without trying if I didn't charge overnight out of habit.

It's been well-received by most of the trusted reviewers and tech sites:

Techradar's Phone of the Year: http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-communicat...

T3 Phone of the Year: http://www.t3.com/news/t3-gadget-awards-2014-htc-o...

CNET 'Outstanding': http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/htc-one-m8/

Its predecessor hoovered up similar awards and plaudits too. It really should be on your shortlist.

I do like them, the only thing that I'm slightly against is that they use nano sim, which is hassle, and alternatives are limited. Great looking things though, and not bad price wise.

What about the LG G3? I had a play with one the other day and was quite impressed. I've had a G2 for a while and it's served me well.

Lovely 4K screen on the G3.

I was looking at one of these aswell, my OH has an LG G Flex and loves it, but the only thing that I'm unsure of is the back that comes away. :/

I think you'll find more and more phones coming with nano SIM nowadays. Is the enough to be a deal-breaker?

The Z3 compact is half a size smaller than the iPhone 6 though.
In physical size, the 6 sits between the Z3 compact and Z3, resp 4.6", 4.7" and 5.2":

The Z3 Compact is substantially smaller than an iPhone 6 but with an almost identical screen size, top end performance and pretty much unbeatable battery life. Would get my vote unless you really want a huge screen.

If you fancied the HTC one M8, but didn't want the "controversial camera", then what about the 'Desire Eye' which was launched last week.
Not in the shops yet, but sure to be available soon....

Not a deal breaker, but a massive pain in the ass. As I then have to faff about transferring contacts over, and then have to phone EE up and ask for a new sim. But I don't see why they charge a tenner for one. But hey, if the right phone, at the right price came up I would do it, but at the moment, the LG G3 looks really good.

Looks great doesn't it smile

I will post some pictures up when it arrives with a mini review. It's the first phone I was excited about since the HTC Desire arrived.

LordFlathead, are you purchasing from India then?

http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-vibe-z2-pro/p/itmdz...

Even with shipping and VAT that only comes in at around the £400 mark.

The back coming away is a benefit, in 1-2 years when the battery is past its best you can actually replace the battery rather than consider new phone.

We have one and you wouldn't know its back comes away it is a fairly solid device, cheap too at £350 sim free. we have a 128Gb uSd card (£50) in there, so no problem with 4k video size etc or having loads of photo and music on the phone, meaning the missus can pretty much use it as she wants without having to back up all the time like her old LG G2 (videos of the kids etc) , her biggest complaint with it is that the battery only just lasts 1 day (of her use, mine was ~3 days)

LG have also cleared up their software clutter compared to the old G2, so it is a lot cleaner Android experience which I prefer, only improving in areas that need it, camera etc.

Its a little thick compared to the likes of the Z3 but it feels nice to hold, not being fouled with buttons on the side, you can really grip it.

For me it would be a toss up between the G3 or the Z3/Z3C depending what I want.

This is the choice I'm facing ...contract up in 2 months (currently have a GS3 and really don't want another Samsung).

I fancy the iPhone 6 because I have a MacBook and the integration looks good but I think I want to stay with Android and have very good memories of (pre-Android) Sony Phones.

I thin it will be a Z3 Compact for me but haven't completely ruled out the iPhone 6 yet ....

True.

I think I'll go for the G3. It suits my needs perfectly.

If you do go for one, I can recommend the smart circle as a decent cover for it, but it is worth noting that it changes the feel of the phone from a nice shiny ‘Wow’ looking thing to something a bit more toned down and textured which has benefits in that the phone is a lot grippier, less likely to slide out of your hands. I can get some photos if it helps.

One thing to note is there are two versions of the smart circle, one that goes over the phone making it thicker and one that replaces the entire back of the phone and contains the NFC and Wireless charging coils which keeps the same sort of thickness, this is the one to get if you want to use wireless charging.

There are a few of colours to choose for this and as it replaces most of the phone you can pretty much choose any colour but the front frame will remain original colour but as this is mostly screen I think you could get away with any colour case.

So similar (in principle) to the Samsung smart cases on the S3? (had one a while ago and can remember the back having to come off to swap them over.
Wireless charging would be quite cool for work, and I rarely use NFC, but nice to have.

Why are your contacts on your SIM and not just cloud synced with Gmail?

I haven't had SIM-based contacts since I ditched my Nokia N95...

they are, but they're also on my sim, and the last time that I trusted something entirely on the cloud, it wiped everything, losing a lot of irreplaceable stuff.

Indeed. And unless SIM technology has improved vastly, ISTR that they don't save multiple parameters for each user, eg. personal/work mobile, home phone, home/work address, date of birth, personal/work email etc... Can you wipe a SIM's contacts remotely like you can a phone's memory?

No reason at all to have numbers on SIM in my view!

I tried to order from them but they said they would not ship to the UK. So I've bought from mermobiles.com there is a large price difference between them but they offer insurance and a two year warranty so I've gone with them. One slightly worrying factor is that that the order did not appear to go through so I repeated the steps. Now it looks like I've bought 5 hehe

Is the phone basically the same, but the adapter is different? I heard that if you plugged a US iPhone into a UK charger it would fry the battery or something, is that crap?

Sounds like utter tripe to me, or something must have changed.
My original iPad, iPad Air and iPhone 4S all come from the US.

Oh, that's cool. Do you not get signal problems with an imported phone?
