Hi. Any electricians that could advice me please?

I have a ceiling light that used to accept small 12v capsule bulbs.
I now fit LED Capsule bulbs in the light but the transformer has failed.
The light is running 12 capsule LEDs

The old original transformer says:
Input 220-240v -50Hz 0.50A :0.97
Output: 11.5VAC Max 120w
Lamp: 35-120W
Tc:max +85Cta:45C Max

Any body know the correct transformer to purchase to run this light with LED Bulbs
(A non electrician says Aurora YT150 – 150VA transformer is correct)

Many thanks

Have you considered replacing it with a new 230v LED fitting? Transformers are old school now.

MR16 lamps and similar are really cramped and even decent ones struggle to manage heatloss, which stresses the voltage regulator; in comparison the separate voltage regulator gets an easy life. The OP has a ceiling full of 12V lamps and 12V wiring and you want him to rip all that out and replace it with new stuff because it's slightly obsolescent rather than just fit a new regulator.

The OP has 'A' ceiling light.

Ok then not something you want to change. Did the transformer fail after fitting LEDs or did it run for some time?

Can you confirm which LED bulbs you have fitted? Do you have a spec?

I have two of these lights in the room. I have been putting led bulbs in for three or four years At present they are 160LM, 12v, 2W (twelve per light fitting)

Assume a G4 type fitting? Ok that's good news. Then why not just replace it with the same model?

This from Screwfix or this from CEF would be fine, but if you have a local electrical factor with other brands you just need 12V DC output and at least 24W power rating. These are sold as dimmable or non-dimmable, the latter are cheaper.

Thanks - may end up doing that - but that original transformer is designed for halogen bulbs (Says halogen bulbs only on it)

Yes agree and at 120w it is way over specified for 24w of LED lamps, but an easy swap. Obviously you'll need something that will fit in the ceiling boss.

Something like thsi will work, but, will it fit?

ETA, are they on dimmers?

Megaphone/Hidetheelephants – Thank you.
(The shape doesn’t matter as the replacement can easily be concealed in the ceiling void)

Yes – I thought that 12 bulbs at 2W would make the 35W more than enough.

(The only reason for my O/posting is that I took this transformer to CEF and told them the transformer was now driving 12 x 2w led bulbs and despite me questioning it he insisted it needs a YT150 which is 150W!! – He even printed me off a cash sales quote. )

Probably not an issue in your case, but the existing transformer output is 12vAC. Most of the small LED bulbs can take both AC and DC power, so shouldn't matter which you get, but good idea to check the specs of your bulbs, often they will have both an AC & DC symbol.
