I have a Mk 2 Escort shell that someone asked me to store about 5 years ago for a 'couple of weeks'.

He had a bodyshop in the next town and was a friend of a friend.

I tried and tried to contact him after the bodyshop closed down maybe 4 years ago, my friend has no idea where the guy is and I can't find him online.

The shell has been strengthened in the past, the strut tops are plated so there's no chassis number and I have no log book.

What can I do? Can I even legally scrap it?

Is it worth running a magnet over where the chassis number should be, just in case someone has filled over it?

If it was me, I would cut it up, sell the quarters or any other good bits as repair panels and scrap the rest.

I had a similar mini shell, was given it so just ebay'd it. Just put in ad no numbers and no paperwork. Someone with a rally car will probably be happy of a spare shell for when the inevitable happens. From my limited understanding rally cars are all pretty much ringers anyway and everyone squabbling over who owns what famous car as multiple turn up!

Sell as a rally car project that can't be road registered. If the previous owner ever turns up, there are no docs to prove who owned what or where it was or wasn't.
