HPI Mileage Discrepancy
Discussion
Hi, going to look at a car tomorrow, so I've done an HPI check and the above has came up. Does it look like an honest mistake or something more sinister? The way I'm looking at it, is it looks like when it went in for its first MOT the guy has put in 201,000 miles instead of what I assume should be 21,000. Doing 186,282 miles in the space of 7 months is impressive, and I'm pretty sure I'd be able to spot the wear and tear if that was the case, but just thought I'd double check with the people of pistonheads.
But after that there seems to be a gap from between December 2012, and November 2014, which is my next concern, even if they serviced it with an independent garage, I would still expect to see mileage from the DVLA from an MOT?
Sorry if I've put this in the wrong place.
Thanks
EDIT: The car was first registered end of January 2010, so I wouldn't have expected to see anything until January 2013; MOT wise? Just wondering why. Think I've got a few questions to ask the dealer.

I'm not 100% sure, but the DVLA records could relate to the mileage at a change of owner. There is a box on the v5 form which the seller can complete with the mileage at change of ownership. It is not mandatory, but may explain why the DVLA entry dates don't tie in to when you might expect the car to be MOT'd.
Before travelling, it may be worth getting the current V5 document reference number or latest MOT certificate number, and completing a separate MOT history check on the car.

Maybe, advert says "one owner" but HPI says "Number of keepers before current keeper - 1" and Current keeper acquired in August 2012, a month after that 201K thing :S definitely going to have some questions for the dealer. Before travelling, it may be worth getting the current V5 document reference number or latest MOT certificate number, and completing a separate MOT history check on the car.

I picked up a car at auction years ago that had a displayed mileage of about 28k, but a mileage entry on the HPI record of 345679. It was a three year old car. I suspected someone at the lease company was just a bit too lazy to enter the correct mileage and stuck a random number into the computer not realising it would end up on the National Mileage Register.
I was able to get a service history and address from the garage who serviced the car, sent it off to the National Mileage Register (at HPI) and had the error erased from the vehicle record.
Worth doing

I remember seeing something similar once, it's just human error. Accidentally typing an extra 0 on the end isn't hard to do and if you omit the trailing 0, the resulting figure of 20,100 looks a lot more reasonable in connection with the other mileages on that sheet.
Unless you can obviously tell the car has done 201k+ (which I would assume would be nearly impossible) then it's just a piece of human error in a database somewhere.

I had exactly this on one of mine
I emailed nmrteam@hpi.co.uk with scans of the service history and they corrected it, no questions.
I had the same, and the same result. I emailed nmrteam@hpi.co.uk with scans of the service history and they corrected it, no questions.
They told me the higher mileage had been added in error at a dealer recording the progress of a different car that was carrying a private plate mine had once had.
What did leave a bad taste though was that they wouldn't, for free, send me the corrected database entry, insisting I pay to see it.
I still dont know if it says "Corrected" against my car, or if their error has been completely removed.
I've kept all the email comms. and will cross that bridge when I need to.

If it was able to do 885 miles per day, and you think that is likely... otherwise, an error.
I guess it's technically possible, but I would not like to be the driver....If there were four drivers in the car taking turns then that's only @ 220 miles per driver!
