Cheers Ben and Andy, I just want to use someone I can trust for servicing and if I can't figure out the clonk.

Haven't done anything really on the car this weekend as I turned my hand to plumbing. And yes, I f****d it up and now the tap leaks worse than it did before I started. No man points for me (though I did buy a big b*****d pair of wide jaw pliers, cool).

I wouldn't put the axle stand where you have put it in ther final photo. The jack is in correct position but where the axle stand is, is just the undertray which is fixed to the fibreglass on the sills...Would not be pretty if jack failed.

Alternatively, put the axle stand on the centre where the jack is or towards the front corner of the car where the 'tub' ends behind the wheel.

Hope my stupid explanations made sense?
Yes it does, cheers for the feedback. I'll move it next time I jack it up.

No worries mate, all of them have their fans, garages can be a bit of a personal choice, but they are the main ones in the general area.

They come apart like mecano, this was my effort on Saturday to investigate the damage after being hit (only gently mind, but will go through the other persons insurance)

they are nice and simple, so if its not obvious, then it would beone of the garages said about, I wouldnt trust anyone else personally... just jacking them up is hard enough (your lucky, you have the stickers!)

they are nice and easy to pull apart, just a little research and your away smile

nother terrible, crack in the mouth and 3 of the 6 mounts under thebonnet are fractured to warying degrees, somade op some washers to spread the load a little. Some muppet hit the car infront of mine (mine and the other car were parked on the side of the road) and he rolled it back 5 foot so it was tucked up against the front clam frown cosmetically im annoyed, but im more concerned about the mounts. I would do it myself, but the pain match wouldnt be right and would annoy me endlessly! Its not a bad drive... move back with the olds for a while has some perks (including my tool shed back!)

How is your VX Andy? On the mend I hope.

I've got nothing done on my car (other than driving) mainly due to this fella:

I'm going to be putting quite a few miles on the VX over the coming months (assuming I can keep her) as I need to come back home every lunchtime to feed the dog. I really need to sort the knock out soon as it is driving me mad! This Saturday... this Saturday... mutter mutter...

Have you worked out what the knock is?

I've diagnosed mine as the toe links so I ordered replacements from autovaux today. Planning to attempt to change them myself which will be interesting nuts

I used Plans and BackOnTrack when I had my VX and would recommend both but preferred the chaps at BoT - so much so, that I let them use my car as a bit of free advertising biggrin

Had the quote from the body shop (rediculous, but they are the ones I was told to go too) just waiting for it to be confirmed etc now.

Stop mumbling and pull your finger out! I'm about Saturday, can provide some extra tools aswell, get it investigated as im sure you will want to sort it either way.

I did see Yoda in the pets section, he looks like a happy lil dog!

I thought yours was the airbox? Or was that just masking another clonk hehe

I've read up on .org and I think it could very well be toe links. Have you come across any guides on how to change them? How hard could it be.... (famous last words)...

That was from a Lotus-on-Track trip to Croix and Abeville back in 2009 - car was indeed quite low but handled really well.

There are probably still a few threads, pics and posts around from my time on .org (same username).

I still miss that car actually and part of me wishes I hadnt sold it. If I still had it now, it would almost certainly be SC'd. Ho hum!

The first knock was the airbox and that is all sorted now!

I think the standard 10 year old toe links struggle with R888s and nitrons tbh! I'm only replacing with standard as I don't intend to use R888s again after these wear out and they should be simpler to fit. Hopefully I can get away without a geo setup by measuring carefully against the outgoing toe links.

If you haven't already found this it is very useful http://www.vx220.org/TIS/

And the toe link part of it http://www.vx220.org/TIS/standard%20information/re...

I am the same, replaced the OE toe links and currently run 888's. I won't be using them again due to £££ and my lack of driver skill does not warrant them!

Right, I've made some progress. Not much, but some. First off, I managed to jack the car and take the wheels and arch liner off successfully (whoop, go me, +10 man points).

The first thing I saw was the airbox looking dodgy. It seems like there is a rubber bung that is tightened against the airbox to keep it rigid. This has loosened and the airbox dropped from it's mounting. I think I need another bung bit as the tightening nut is corroded. This is how I have left it for the time being:

This isn't the cause of the rattle though. This is:

It is a large pipe / hose coming from the engine bay down in front of the rear wheel and through the sill onto towards the front of the car. I'm presuming it feeds to the radiator but that is a guess. It has come loose and basically knocks against the sill at the smallest of bumps. Here is another pic (highlighted the hose) heading towards the front of the VX.

I've managed to get a couple of cables ties in but access is a b@stard. It is slightly improved, but now there are a whole load more clonks and squeeks furious

I really have no idea how to secure this.

Well I found the cause of the new clonk:

That's right, I left my torch in the car. My mechanical idiocy knows no bounds. Quite impressed my torch was still running after 14 hours though - I recommend these Lensers, good bit of kit. You can also see from the pic where I managed to get a couple of cable ties on there.

So - can anyone confirm if that is the coolant hose? If so, will it remain cool enough to tape a sponge or something round it to stop it clonking?

Alternatively if someone could point out how it is meant to be secured I would appreciate it.

What side does the hose run down Rob? Is it the passenger side?

Ill try and see how mine is and get a picture for you mate.

Nice one on fixing the torch knock though, that would have got right on my tits! lol

Cheers - it is rear passenger side. You only need to remove the left side of the arch liner, then you can look through to see the hose and other bits and pieces (I've got a feeling they are heating and coolant pipes, I'm not sure what the hose is that is knocking).
