Never played F3 or NV but completely agree about the whole isolation thing. I just want to mooch about exlporing doing my own thing and not being forced into doing anything else!
OMG. Just go and get a copy of Fallout 3 and I'll see you in 200+ hrs. Don't bother with this new thing.I'm thinking of doing GTA V again, but I think I put too much into Fallout 3 to revisit it.
But you. You haven't criss-crossed the map hunting for the last few bits of stuff. You haven't killed every enemy, with every gun, in every possible way. You. Get onto #3

And then NV, which has an insane amount of replayability. The last run through I did of that game (I think it was the 8th) was with the NCR faction but using nothing but punching weapons. I even managed to steal Caesar's Displacer Glove. I'm thinking of doing GTA V again, but I think I put too much into Fallout 3 to revisit it.

There doesn't seem to be a decent way of playing on PS4 though which is my only console...I'm thinking of doing GTA V again, but I think I put too much into Fallout 3 to revisit it.

Well I think I'll give this one a miss having seen the gameplay footage. That style of game is not for me. On a console I find having to shoot properly a bit of a chore, and quite difficult.
Another reason to get the PC version. I've always played the modern Fallouts like FPS's. In fact for an entire game I enter VATS once and immediately leave it just to get rid of the "press V to enter VATS" message that keeps popping up. In FO:NV, once out of Doc Mitchel's place I walk immediately to the nearest Brahmin for just this purpose.

I'd love to go PC again, but to be honest I rarely have the time to sit down and use something like that. I don't even have a room or a desk for a proper PC anymore and seldom use the laptop we have...iPads pretty much suffice for browsing these days. Even photo editing in Light Room.
I can't justify a gaming PC. If I was to buy a console today I don't think I would buy one. I think my PS4 has seen < 24 hours use since the new year. I bought one when they were still quite new and I had more time to use it.
A console for me is a compromise. It sits out of sight in a cabinet and is decent enough to play on via a game pad when time permits. This is why fallout games are good for me. Single player and you can do away with the FPS element if you really want and it means you can come back any time to have a bit of fun. The world exploration is the best bit for me.... shooting I can take or leave regardless of controls. Though its still nicer to "mouse" around to look at stuff. I spend a lot of time using VATS and pick perks that aid using it. I find the slow mo deaths quite fun (if only for the game engine's janky animations).
Collectors edition of Fallout 76 is going to come with the T-51 Power Armour Helmet, unfortunately sold out already it seems.

For the first time in my life I don't want to pre-order a Fallout Game...... Will wait and see how it seems before and hope that a single player game is released soon..
Some more info from Quakeconn:https://www.polygon.com/2018/8/11/17678996/fallout...
and there probably won't be a single-player game (as with Fallout 4) - but you can largely ignore all the human players if you want to.
