I gave up on the original Fallout 4, but grabbed my attention. Alas it looks like you need all the DLCs for it to work and I'm not sure I'm willing to spend another ~£48 to risk this. (the Fallout London website says you need all the DLCs)

There's a mod to bring back the old dialogue system. Fallout 4 is the first Fallout game that I would insist you need mods to make playable. Just need to finish the base game now

The three big DLCs (Automaton, Far Harbour and Nuka World) are worth it as they introduce new stories and new levels. Never saw the value in the rest.

The dialogue system isn't the problem. It's just the choice to reply was typically limited to yes / no etc. which is boring, and I'm guessing a mod doesn't change that.
