I found this in my box of bearings

It is an NTN bearing and the number is 6005L8. The depth is 12mm. I don't suppose it's the right size is it?

The local Ford dealer is looking into availability of the bush and washer.

Brilliant! Thanks - I've had that bearing 25 years, I knew it would turn in handy one day laugh There were a pair of Norton Dominator wheel bearings in the box as well, plus a Triumph pre-unit crank bearing!

Presumably……….

1. If my plastic bearing carrier is intact I can re-use it?
2. The only reason there are so many bolts holding the plastic bearing carrier in place is because it’s plastic; and so if it was made from steel or ally there would need to be fewer bolts?

Thoughts/comments?

I said:
and a matching ring to go the other side of the bodywork, in the footwell.
Got that a bit wrong, bearing carrier is on the inside,so column has to come out anyway. Perhaps a nice Stainless steel strengthening ring on the outside rather than lots of little washers rolleyes

Maybe have threads tapped into bearing carrier?

Found a plastic one in my stores if it's any good to you Joe as a "pattern" to get one (two scratchchin) made?

Hi Joe,

I re-used my old plastic bearing carrier OK...the shiny new ally one tended to have too many fixing holes and at the wrong PCD!

Andy - If I can find someone local who might be interested in making up a small batch could you lend me your ally on as a pattern?

Phillpott - Would that mean you'd have to take the steering column out to fit it? If "yes, then could the ring be made in two overlapping halfs and bolted through the joints?

Alternatively, would something like this in a larger size do the job?

Joe, my offer to lend you a plastic one seems to have attached itself to my last post rather than starting a new one confused

Great, thanks Mike. There's no rush so I'll get it off you on the Euro Tour if that's OK. Cheers
