Talking with Nigel Reuben (who built the two wide Griff last year they pull a tad over 170 before the brakes (does sound alot though as that hill is bloody steep!), but Chengs seem as fast.

My car has been held up big time by the engine builder (only 9 months late!), I will have to run a longer diff than the 6 hour Griffs as on smaller diameter (modern but fairly narrow) rubber (one Jag ratio longer).

Is Cheng having a ya off from running the Silver car?

You need to carry a lot of speed through Eau Rouge to make the big number at the end and it's hard on the brakes. 170 is Challenge Tuscan territory - which was lap times under 2:30 with the old bus stop. What lap times does this historic Griff do??

Phil,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_GtDHX2dyw&tra...

Doing about 2:53's, but the Brakes on these are really not Good (Jag 3 pots are allowed but only about 270-280mm solid rotor - Blue one had one go shatter at close to top speed on the Kemmel last year - very lucky!
And tyres though fairly big (245 on the back on 8J's) are ZZ's, think they might ge trying to get a 9J in there this year.

They have at least the poke of a Tuscan racer (top level 289's are making about 450bhp Malcolm J's think around there).

You'd have alot more lateral grip and be able to stop a good bit later to get the difference down to what you and Cheng run (about 10 or more less sec's per lap?).

They had too many problems last year to come anywhere overall. Rad, brake disc and a carb replacement across the 2 NR cars. Finger X'd for them this year.

Has he recovered from Combe and would he have a car that he'd want to use in Barry's race?

from http://www.roadbook.be/spasixhours/pdf/EntryListSp... looks like just the one Griff (Eek).

Nigel R has switched to this car from the Blue one. That will be a Mega Team, Shipman, Hales, Reuben, car has had a few minor tweeks since last year.

Great entry list for the Barry race. The Studebaker Commander is AJ Foyt's first race car, former Carrera Panamericana winner - fabulous looking thing!

Any idea what speed that thing pulls on the kemmel before the brake go on?

There's no speedo as it scares the drivers wink
What is can do and what we do do tongue out aren't the same...

Actually, there is a GPS speedo in it and we do 150+. It can do 160+, even 170, but the extra 10-15mph beyond 155 eats braking distance and murders the brakes, and a big downhill brake into the Rivage hairpin needs to be considered. In qualifying I'll nudge the 160s but (a) it doesn't make much difference to lap time and (b) I only do a couple of laps then come in. A 60 minute race needs some consideration for making sure the car lasts.

Fastest lap from 2009: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZrZw74rkC4
Cheers Phil.

I left that out of my listing as I thought you might drop that in . . . and with a fab picture indeed.

I found this parked at the top of the road this evening, I guess it is off to Spa.

I've seen this Osca parked there before but I've never managed to talk to the owner.

I'd love a pictures of it in action. Sadly this is yet another year when I'm not going to be able to make it out to Spa :-( One year, one year I promise.

Sorry for the poor photo, it was just a quick shot from the camera, I'd have been killed if I'd gone back for a real camera.

PS. it is entered in the Stirling Moss Trophy race

Cheng was sharing the orange Cobra, I was sharing the white MGB V8. Did feel a bit odd not having the big dog there after all these years.
