Just want Jimmy to get one more and bring up that magic 700 before this game is over
Will he get another bowl before jumping on the plane
Thats the worry, might not get another chance. He will play this summer though, hes done pretty well out here, certainly his fitness is good if he can play 4 out of 5 Tests. Not set the world on fire, but taken some wickets and kept the scoring low

At the end of all this, there will be "lessons have been learnt", still the way to go, we have discovered some new spin bowlers [apart from being smashed all over the park], the lads did a jolly good job. Not a bad vibe amongst it.

Onwards to the next test of "bazball" and how to not bowl or bat in a test
On balance I prefer this to the previous approach with Root as captain.

But they need to wind back on believing their own press ("we'll learn"... Errrmmmm you're not doing).

There has to be balance with the bravado and laissez fair. It's great when you're genuinely the big dog's bks. But opposition teams laugh st you when you aren't.

A bit more humility in places, less dogmatism (especially on selection) and the results will be better.

At what point should Stokes be dropped? He can’t bowl despite his unconvincing assurances he’s on the mend, his batting is dreadful, and his captaincy doesn’t bear even vague scrutiny. I’m trying to think of a less positive way to signal intent than the way we started the session today.
I think you’re watching the wrong game….Stoke’s captaincy has been of the highest quality in the field. Listen to any number of ex Pro’s and they all say he’s fantastic at manoeuvring his field and managing his bowlers.

Wakes up
Opens CricInfo
Closes CricInfo
Back to sleep.

Did just catch that Jimmy got his 700th so that's good.

Pleased for Jimmy.

As for the rest, Cricinfo commentary suggesting there might be golf courses nearby. hehe

V disappointing.

I was planning a family test match brunch this morning. A chance to watch our middle order showcase their skills whilst we enjoy a full English and catch up after a busy week. Stuff that, its now a “make yourself some toast I’m busy” morning…

Winning a test series in India is very difficult, no reason to miss out on a good breakfast.

Agreed re series win. But an innings defeat within three days isn’t what we should expect from a talented English side. They are better than this, and I am truly disappointed by them.

Breakfast is still off.

Yeah, he’s been brilliant in this series. Absolutely top drawer. Flawless even. Beyond reproach.

Jimmy’s achievement in reaching 700 test wickets is frankly spectacular. I prefer to remember that from this game and celebrate it. The rest of the game not so memorable. Quick mention for Bashir with another 5 for. Both at different stages of their careers, but to use an oft overused term Jimmy is without doubt a legend of our game. Well done sir.

Absolutely. Man is a force of nature. The next pace bowler on the all time list is Broady with almost a 100 fewer. Doubt we will ever see a pacer in the 700s again in our lifetime.

Plus at almost 42, playing 4 Test in those conditions. Outstanding. I'm 43 and hurt my foot because my shoelace was too tight

Really, Root, Crawley, Fowkes and the rookie spinners showed a decent level of determination but the rest are out of their depth in hard test cricket.

After a lucky narrow 1st test win the reaming got increasingly bigger.

Hats off to Anderson for his 700 but without a feisty Broad at the other end he is yesterday's hero.

The next UK summer may paper over the cracks but the next stern examination will blow it apart.

Test cricket needs 4 or better 5 strong test nations and today there's two with an honourable mention to New Zealand who are in the process of setting up a tight finish in the current test

This has been a poor series for us. We know India have won 17 series in a row against all comers so this was always going to be an uphill battle. I am not going to overreact but I have been disappointed with the middle order batting albeit against the best spin attack in the world in their home conditions. We will need a very solid performance during the summer at home to turn things around and it will be interesting to see what that side looks like. Not all doom and gloom for me I am excited about what the summer can bring.

I didn't bother this morning as it was just so predictable . England really had to win the very winnable previous test .

I do think England need a major rethink on how they play test match cricket.

I'll probably get pelters but I really think Stoakes should not be captain & if he's not going to bowl then his selection should not be an automatic one.

Looks to me that all the batsmen ( I hate this batters bks nonsense ) are far too comfortable. Only Crawley & Root I'd keep to be honest

Oh well the county stuff starts soon.

Against the Windies and Sri Lanka? Will prove nothing. Just like the majority of the tests pre-The Ashes smile

Now Bairstow's got his 100th cap, maybe the sentimentality can be done away with and the team won't feel the need to find a way to slot him in.

To prove I'm not that hard nosed, I'd give Jimmy a chance to get 9 more wickets over the summer if he wants it and is fit enough.

Most of the rest just need better coaching. They all have the ability to put in a good innings. Hardly any have the mentality to put two in on the bounce, let alone the 4, 5 or 6 to win a series.

I am now only going to say positive things during the next tests smile

True, they shouldn’t be a real challenge, but they will be thinking Ashes I hope. The batting is obviously a key area of improvement. Not so sure about coaching, if they haven’t worked it out by now then we need some new blood. Let’s see what the selections are like this summer and we can start the conversation again wink
