Why does it always seem to be John Virgo who ends up shouting "Where's the cue ball going?".
That's his gimmick

That's his gimmick
smile He's said it about 5 times today.

Fair do's to Selby for trying a bit of a "trick" shot just now.

it's like Murray Walker in F1 "unless I'm very much mistaken, I am very much mistaken"

There's a comfort in it

and it is a good question for snooker!

I didn't see what you're referring to, but he's a massive hypocrite. Not a player I have much time for.
Sometimes I don’t mind his commentary but his self importance is off the chart.

Hendry was repeatability a bit of a dick to him yesterday though.

Felt like he had to overcompensate in his defence of himself a little.

Hendry kept ragging on him about splitting his time between playing and commentating.

Murphy said he loved both.

Hendry then basically said he wouldn't respect the dichotomy until Murphy had won something.

All a bit unnecessary in the casual chat section.

Didn't hear that but I side with Hendry. Murphy is a self congratulatory little man whose achivements are inversely proportional to his self importance.

However, I was referring to Murphy's retort to Vafaei, Murphy takes it upon himself to speak for the players and clearly thinks his opinion is better than others. It's such a transparent attempt to ingratiate himself with the ruling body and organisers. I think SM might be better off concentrating on his playing and reducing the amount he flaps his gums.

Familiar face at the range, ready to do some commentary up here.

Proper lovely bloke.

Love Ken!

It was watching him win in '97 which really got me into snooker. The epitome of 'plucky tenacious underdog'. I was on the edge of my seat cheering him on.

Has he retired from playing? Great having him as a pundit but can't remember the last time I saw him play.

I'm not. I enjoy watching the 'not caring too much' version of Williams these days.

I'm a big fan of Ken too and I remember his 97 final well. He seems a great bloke to me for sure.

I've watched him recently a couple of times in the quick fire seniors snooker event on Channel 5. IIRC he won the last one that was on telly as well.

I agree. I said in this thread maybe a year ago that he was clearly lining himself up to be the bbc commentator for the next 50 years and I can’t stand him. He’s also ridiculously pompous eg with his overtly flourishing handkerchief in the top pocket as per yesterday.

Gawd, we’ve had it, the beeb love him

Completely agree. He is insufferable, a total teacher’s pet of the snooker governing bodies as well. Nauseatingly so. And on top of all that, doesn’t appear to be the nice person he seems desperate to portray himself as.

In Shaun’s defence, his commentary is a comparative joy to listen to compared to the torture that is Yates over on Eurosport!
