Guys - just a quick note if anyone is serious about owning an M5 E60 I will probably be advertising mine soon..... chance to get in quick before I stick an ad on PH Classifieds etc.... being offered the usual silly trade in value from the dealers and would prefer to sell privately to another enthusiast (assuming I don't get the usual time wasters :-) )
Nov 2006 ex-BMW Park Lane still with AUC warranty. 64K miles and still original (although I was soooo tempted by the silencer delete... just couldn't do it)
If anyone has any general questions about M5 ownership / costs etc please let me know and I'll be happy to answer them if I can
Cheers

Don't think the Eisenmann is as loud as mine without the silencers but it sounds pretty decent.

Alas, my circumstances have changed quite considerably, so I'll be passing my M5 on in the very near future frown

I've had the Eisenmann removed today and the stock exhausts put back on, so the Eisenmann will also be up for sale, it's literally a month and a half old.

The winter wheels/tyres that I bought from Matt will also be up for sale too.

As will the stockpile of 10W60 that I'd accumulated on the assumption that I'd be keeping the E61 for a while.

I'll be honest, I've no idea. I didn't take out the BMW warranty on the car when I bought it as it came with a 12 month warranty from the supplying dealer, so the idea was for me to put the Mondial warranty on it just before that expired, or just before the car hit 60K - whichever came first.

As it happens, I've only had the car 10 months, it's on 56.6K and I haven't had a single problem with the car - it's been faultless, which is not what I expected given my experiences with the E60 that I had.

Do you have an E61 or an E60? Because I think the exhaust for the E61 isn't compatible with the saloon.

Tried to email you through PH after you posted about the exhaust, wheels and oil Gareth, did you get it?

I don't think the back boxes will affect the warranty - BMW seems fairly pragmatic/realistic and unless the back boxes can be shown to cause a fault there will be no issue.

As above I need to get round to advertising my E60 although clearly not in a rush as I noticed my post below is from Jan! I bought a 2nd car now to keep the miles off the M5 as my commute got longer. In fact I think I saw a cobweb on the M5 the other day.....! Needs a good home :-)

Quick question regarding warranty, if a car has under 60k and had a few services at a BMW specialist using genuine BMW parts, does it still qualify for the BMW warranty?

You will need to contact Mondial and ask. They have access to the main dealer network service info and will notice that it has not been serviced for a while. If/when the car is covered the following applies:

"The terms and conditions of the warranty listed below must be adhered
to. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of a claim or the termination
of yourBMWInsuredWarranty. This does not affect your statutory rights.
1. When servicing your BMW, failure to comply with the service schedule
recommended by BMW may invalidate this warranty. All service and
warranty work must be carried out by an Authorised BMW Dealer or BMW
Service Authorised Workshop using only Genuine BMW Parts.Your BMW
Service Booklet should be stamped, dated and detailed with the correct
mileage at the time of service by the servicing dealer."

Are there actually m5 owners out there who have experienced no issues or reliability problems? Because all I seem to come across is horror stories?

It's rare for someone to post about how nothing has gone wrong with their car for X months etc.

I've owned my E60 M5 since October last year and not had any problems with it at all, oh except a puncture !

Hey folks,
When i was selling my M5 and looking at 535ds I got a great tip from a seller that I think may be worth passing on.
If you pop the bonnet and look at the headlights in your car, you will see a paper stamp on the head lights that looks something like this:

One of the key fields is the date stamp, I believe this relates to when the headlights were manufactured.
Both the left and the right headlamps should have pretty much the same date on them, if they don’t match, or even worse someone has scrapped the paper off the lights (as I saw on my car after the gentleman pointed it out) – then you could be looking at a car that has had front end damage repairs done!
Its not a guarantee of an issue, but if spotted it’s definitely worth questioning the seller!
This applies to any BMW models – the stamp is off my 535d but the logic is the same.
Hope this helps.
Greg
