"Value for money" watches

I'm kinda halfway surprised that the Visodate is such a hit.
I tried one on in a AD in Ambleside last year and it felt, well....kinda light and unsubstantial. I was wearing an orange monster that day, so that may have skewed my perception a bit....
Beautiful looking watch mind
I suppose the issue is whether a heavy watch means it's a good watch. Sure, you're getting value for money if you go to scrap the watch - the more metal, the better. So, for £350, what do you get? From the previous post, a decent movement.I tried one on in a AD in Ambleside last year and it felt, well....kinda light and unsubstantial. I was wearing an orange monster that day, so that may have skewed my perception a bit....

Its a dress watch. a Orange monster is a gigantic sports watch, so how can you compare.I tried one on in a AD in Ambleside last year and it felt, well....kinda light and unsubstantial. I was wearing an orange monster that day, so that may have skewed my perception a bit....

I've just (yesterday) bought a Longines retrograde moonphase after doing some research & reading some postive posts about the brand on this site. I'm very pleased with the quality & finish and think the complications included for the cost make it great value. Feel it's a worthwhile addition to any collection

Surely the Oris Worldtimer has to be in with a shout at around £2k? Double time zone indication, small seconds, date window, and also an AM/PM indicator for the second time zone.
That's a smart looking watch. I've looked at Oris before but have always been steered towards the Pro Diver for this brand. What about a Mont Blanc sport chronograph? - that's also in the same sort price range.

For value for money I would say Chris Ward. Great quality. Very good prices. Good movements can be had too.
Perhaps in the past! As much as I'd like to promote a British company, I think their prices are not VFM.Oh, I have had the pleasure of trying a couple of their watches and cannot fault them. The issue is purely about VFM here.

I agree, I bought one a few years ago and still occasionally browse their website.Oh, I have had the pleasure of trying a couple of their watches and cannot fault them. The issue is purely about VFM here.

I'm sure their stuff used to range from little over £100 to about £550 for their top watch. It now seems to be £300-£800.

Agreed the prices have gone up in recent years. The top watch now is ino the thousands. But I would say look out for the deals and you can get yourself a decent Swiss made watch for good money. "Value for Money"....... And yet we get suggestions for watches costing thousands of pounds?!.......
The ultimate value for money watch HAS to be.......
Ha! I just bought the metal case version of this - £30. despite having a vintage Universal and a Tag Carera, I always wear my Casio. The ultimate value for money watch HAS to be.......
My mate commented the other day: 'Whats that piece of Sh*t' To which my reply was it was a watch for the man that doesn't feel he needs to make a statement. In a way it was part true and part to shut him up. In all honesty I bought it because it keeps perfect time, i don't notice it is there, it goes in the shower/bath/pool etc and my kids can't damage by dropping it on the kitchen floor. It is in a word - brilliant and has attracted lots of positive comments in a sea of Omega/Tag/Rolex/Zenith/Breitlings....
I do however openly admit to coveting a Rolex Milgauss.

Haha! My missus just bought me one too! It truly is one of the greatest watches ever made imho. Now I just need a silver one and gold one to complete the trio..... it's a curse this watch business! My mate commented the other day: 'Whats that piece of Sh*t' To which my reply was it was a watch for the man that doesn't feel he needs to make a statement. Wife just bought me a watch for my 10th Annmiversary (long service medal as I see it), Originally i had a Longines in mind but settled on a Speedmaster reduced whioch I picked up used for a great price. I think the trend for the mahoosive dive style watch will fade over the next couple of years so was conscious of having soemthing that had a good name and stood the test of time. That said you'd have to go a long way to beat most of the Longines mid range.
