Near misses - the thread of self control
Discussion
I should be all over this.
But for some reason I'm just not feeling it. The seller is asking €330. That's about £280, for a working tuning fork Omega. It's a bargain and it's nicely preserved too for a 1972 watch. That scratch is on the crystal, not the dial.
My head is saying "BUY" but my heart is saying "meh". There must be something wrong with me.

Near misses for me have been things I was offered for a song (when living abroad somewhere where secondary market watches were generally really well priced) which while I liked, weren't particularly on my wish list, so turned down. And a few years on realise what a terrible mistake that was in terms of sheer resale uplift.
Was offered a Daniel Roth Chronograph in black for about $2,500 in 2017, it was a tad small for my taste (but love the shape) so ended up getting a Parmigiani Fleurier Kalpa instead which I'd always wanted. Those Daniel Roths are now listed at about $10,000 on Chrono24.
Also a JLC Master Geographic I was offered for about $3,000. Now about three times that.
And then the biggie, my grail watch, an A Lange & Sohne Lange 1, and in my grail version of the mother of pearl dial (not the one with the guilloche, but the smooth one). I think it was available for about $17,000 which I could no way afford, but knew I'd be able to make a handsome profit on that. I also however knew I'd never be able to part with it.

- Sob...!
Well it's been about three weeks since my last purchase. Which means I can't stay away from the for sale fora any longer.
I won't be buying anything just yet. Probably. My Electroquartz Constellation is finally back from the watchmaker and it sort of works! I've still not worn the Seamaster Mariner, or the Spaceview. So acquiring another watch just wouldn't make any sense right now.
But that doesn't mean a fellow can't window shop, right?
This Tissot was up for €185 from Italy. So postage and VAT to add on if you're in the UK.
And on a similar theme and age, both are mid 70's, this Seiko is gorgeous. The Belgian seller is asking €350.
