Sorry for the thread resurrection guys but thought I would add to this one rather than starting a new one!

I'm in the market for a watch to use on holiday this summer, I don't want a particularly expensive one as it will get knocked about and covered in sand/chlorine.

I was at first looking at one of these from Werners:

http://www.wernersflyingwatches.com/products.asp?P...

But after a quick e-mail to the always helpful Nick, he has suggested that as its only 5ATM water resistant it may not really be suitable for my needs.

So, I've moved onto looking at monsters, after a quick search the cheapest I could come up with was £95 (including shipping) for a new one from here (albeit on a rubber strap - although I think that is probably best given what I want to use it for):

http://www.creationwatches.com/products/seiko-dive...

Has anyone used creation watches before? They just seem a little cheap compared to others, also I'll presumably get stung on import tax, is this just 15% VAT?

All advice on the monster/ any other watch suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

Rk Watchhouse on Ebay sell the Seiko Monsters. ~£140, but saves the hassle of importing one.

I'd look at Casio G-Shocks, you can probably get something that is suitable for around half what you're currently looking to spend. It'll probably take everything you throw at it.

I've ordered a G-Shock from Tiktox, had no problems from them. They also seemt to be fairly well priced.

Cheers Slagathore,

I think I'd rather save myself a few quid (well £45!!) and get it delivered from abroad (if only I could get my head around the import charges!)but I'm just not sure about that website.

I know what you mean about G-shocks being extra sturdy, but I'm not really a G-shock fan to be honest!

Any other ideas you (or anyone else) could throw into the mix?!

Much appreciated!

When I imported my Night Monster, I had to pay £54.76 on a watch with a disclosed value of US$370.

The actual duty component of it was £41.26, with the remaining £13.50 being ParcelFarce's ransom charge.

If you get hit for duty, you will have the £13.50 on top, which might make a £100 watch turn into a £130 watch, realistically saving only a few quid over buying one that is already in the UK.

Well, actually, £125 plus postage. I bought a Monster (since I wanted to fit in with everyone at Le Mans) last Friday from RK, paid instantly, received an email saying posted and giving me the tracking reference at noon the same day. Arrived today in France. Can't ask for better. Oh, and it has the box and papers which most abroad don't supply. I've often wondered if they are back door seconds. Jury's out on the watch since I've not worn anything this cheap for 20 years but I am looking forward to trying it out.

My grail Seiko dive is an SKX007J on an Oyster. Bloody hard to find new!

Cheers for the replies guys.

I've worked out the import charges and with 4.5% duty, 15% VAT and 2.5% handling fee it will end up being nearly as expensive so you were right!

I've had a look at RK watchhouse and the cheapest I can see there is £140 +£6.75 p&p for an Orange Monster so it looks like prices may have gone up a bit.

Is anyone aware of anywhere cheaper?

Not sure if you looked properly. Go here:-

Same as I bought last week, £125. OK, it's the black not orange but the price is certainly a good one.

Yep I'd seen that but I'm really looking for the orange one if I can find one at a good price!

I noticed one for sale second hand in the classifieds so I have contacted the seller to see if he will budge on price a bit as its used.

Keep an eye on that seller, Tom. I bought an Orange Monster from him just over a week ago.

Been wearing my Monster for 4 days. So far, a four second gain and keeping better time than the IWC Spitfire!

Which one Arun? The ebay one or the PH classifieds one?

On my search I've come across this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seiko-5-Sports-Auto-Scuba-Di...

Anyone know anything about them? I know it's not a monster but I love the colour, just a shame it isn't 200m resistant. Does anyone know how it would fair swimming in the sea/pool?

Says in the ad that it is water resistant to 100M? That should be plenty for swimming?

I Know it says 100m, but I have read it the past that it doesn't necessarily mean it actually is as it's rated on the watch sitting at a constant depth and not moving around...... maybe I'm just confused though!

I've got three Seiko's rated to 100m (2 autos and a kinetic). All 3 have done a fair bit of time in a pool, and have been used in the sea (playing in the surf). Not had any issues with water ingress.

I think Arun was referring to RKWatchhouse who are highly recommended here and on the TZ forums. However, justseiko are just as reliable. Buy from either with confidence. RK usually have more Monsters though than the other.

Am I right in thinking that a replacement strap for the Monster would need to be 20mm?

Really fancy one of the Watchworx leather numbers, did he ever get anymore of the orange stitched ones?

Im after an orange monster at the moment, has anybody used this seller?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Why is he using RK Watchhouse photos? Are they connected in anyway?
Would i be better just mailing RK and asking if he has one?

No need to worry it seems looking at the feedback. 99.7 over 3057 sales is darned good. Buy it, you'll like it. Mine never leaves my wrist now.
