Looking to get a decent quality, cheap-ish dive watch for holidays etc

Something that can take a knock or two, that I can leave on day and night

I am considering a monster but looking on eBay I am getting confused as sellers seem to call both a watch with the crown at 3 o'clock and one with the crown at 4 o'clock as monsters

I believe the second to actually be a 5

What are the differences? Is one superiorto the other?

Can anyone recommend an eBay seller or other source?

Both have been talked about lots on here!

A search should bring up some more info, including reputable sources to get them from.

The Monster wins it for me! Love the chunky looks of it!

To make things easy for you, this is the "Monster"...

Seiko Orange Monster SKX781K

Seiko Black Monster SKX779K

Rare Seiko Blue Monster SKZ213

Rarer Seiko Yellow Monster SKZ203 (Only 300 made)

And the not quite so rare (1313) Seiko RED Monster SKZ243K1

All together...

They have recently bought out the "Night Monster" which is black IP plated but personally I think it's way over priced at the moment.

Note they all share the same case layout and bezel design which is exclusive to the Monster. Anything else sold as a Seiko "Monster" that doesn't match the above just simply isn't.

Personally I'm a fan (and owner) of the Black Monster. Understated but still chunky as hell and tough as nails. HTH smile

Ps. If your feeling flush you could always look out for the Seiko Prospex "Tuna" SBBN007

Makes the Monster look like a little girls watch smile

These are really growing on me!

Could maybe fit the bill for a work watch!

Cheapest I can find is £130 from Ebay!

You know you want to wink

Ps. Seiko "5" refers to Seiko's own essential features of what makes a good watch and all "Seiko 5" watches must meet these criteria. These features are shock resistant, water resistant, automatic, and day and date display.

Funny enough the "Monster" meets all of these features so technically it is actually a "5" movement anyway wink

I recently got an orange monster and I've very pleased with it, I also got mine from ebay user trend2009. I thought about it for a couple of months and in that time they went up from average £115-120 to £134 and it looks like they've gone up again since I got mine.

I went for the orange face as I wear it as a casual watch and the orange looks a bit more relaxed. I don't wear it every day which causes it to stop but it's not much of a task to set it to the right time and a watch winder could cure this problem if it got really annoying. If you wear it every day though I doubt it will stop for a number of years.

I needed to take a few links out of the bracelet so i bought this http://www.watchobsession.co.uk/shop/suissetek-bra... there are cheaper alternatives available or a jeweler could sort it for you.

It a comfortable watch to wear and feels good quality and very solid, get one, you won't regret it.

Uh oh, it's you. hehehippy

You say shock resistant... does this include the old '80s ones? My old one certainly ticks the other criteria but just curious. As tough as G-shocks?

Trend2009 is the one I saw!

Is he any good?

I see he's already in the UK, so I won't have to pay any tax, like I would have to on one from the other foreign sellers.

Are there two different versions of this watch?

In this link the day and date is blue and black

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Then in this one it is black and black

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LATEST-SEIKO-DIVER-ORANGE-MO...

Any ideas? or does anyone have one in orange, and if so, what is the colour of the day and date?

Cheers!

I'll let you know tomorrowhehe

But I think it could be to with the fact that the day can be displayed in 2 different languages. Plus maybe Sat
and Sun are different colours as well.

This may help

Ahh, thanks for that!

Weekend days are in blue by the looks of it, so that's why they're both different colours.

When I bought the watch via buy it now he emailed me early the next morning to say they had ran out of stock of the watches, he said I could either have the money refunded now or I could wait approximately 4 days for it. I waited and it did arrive approximately a week later.

May I ask, is it easy to alter the bracelet using this kit??.

I've got a Tag, Omega, and now the Monster that all need doing. Not sure if I'd have the confidence to have a go myself.

Or just pay a jewellers??
It's a bit fiddly but I managed it without losing any of the bits. This site has a bit of a how to which helps http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/WatchTools/BraceletSiz...

I asked about tools in this thread here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... The cheap tools were also recomended but I'm a sucker for something thats in a case and looks nice.

Monday to friday is black, saturday is blue and sunday is red, the dates are all in black. When the dial changes each day of the week is switches to the alternative language at midnight then about 3am it switches back to the one you've set, I think the options are english and french but I could be wrong. It's not a problem but it is slightly confusing if you're a bit drunk around 1am and the words don't make sense.

What have you decided on?

I've gone for orange biggrin

Ordered it from rkwatchhouse last night.

First time I've used Ebay, so don't really know how it works, but I'd expect to recieve an email today at some point confirming the order and telling me it has been dispatched?

Looks great mate, you got a better looking box than mine and I'm not sure if I got a warranty card with mine either. Looks like RK are the ones to use.

I've ordered an Orange Monster from them!

Still had no reply today, and there is no listing for the orange version on his Ebay store!

maybe he sold the last orange one before I got my order in?

I'm sure I'll hear from him tomorrow!
