Ryan STM-S2, one of 34 which survived the Japanese attacks on the Dutch AF in what is now Indonesia.
They were shipped to AUS and were as Eric says used as trainers. Some are still flying!
Ryan also built the 'Spirit of St. Louis'

The Norwegians had some as well in the same area, but fitted with floats.

Yesterday on Glas Maol above the Glenshee Ski centre. Pilot was unhurt and able to walk down the mountain aided by the climbers that were on the summit at time of the crash. Full story and more pics here
snow joke that!

Seriously though I'm glad he was OK, he could have been stranded up there if you hadnt been at the right place at the right time.

He owes you a debt of gratitude.
No no, not me, I was not there, just provided the link for the interested.

Edited to add after reading the climbers account I do wonder if the climbers had not been there whether the microlight pilots would have bothered swooping the summit in the first placescratchchin

Still a great historic picture though. Still can't believe the F14s have come, and gone again.

Nothing lasts forever - including aircraft. They had a pretty long run - 1970 to 2007.

Something quite cool, yet menacingly evil about this:

Not that cool a picture I know, but it was very cool standing that close to a running Lightning biggrin

Haven't got any pictures of it with the reheats on as I was videoing at that point but it will be running again in a few weeks time and I can't wait

Not necessarily a cool pic , but a good vid from the days when we still had an Air Force , 23 mins long , but the best bits from 19mins on.

this isn't quite a photo, but it's a good rendition of a 360º view of the A380 Airbus cockpit

Excellent biggrin

The Lightning leading the formation of 9, XR728, is still alive and kicking and is pictured on the right here
