Not necessarily a cool pic , but a good vid from the days when we still had an Air Force , 23 mins long , but the best bits from 19mins on.

Excellent biggrin

The Lightning leading the formation of 9, XR728, is still alive and kicking and is pictured on the right here

Absolutely gorgeous and very rare. There are very, very few De Havilland DH84 Dragons left flying in the world today - I can think of three only.

Something quite cool, yet menacingly evil about this:

Ah. Glad we cleared that up. Appreciate the help. Good work. Like to see more of that.

On an unrelated note, if Eric could identify the airframe pictured above the..er...grass and below the 144, that would be lovely.

Ah, should have said so then. I would say it is a Yak 15.

That one makes fairly regular appearances out here; those shots are from Temora, last year.

I last saw it at the Archerfield Airshow, QLD, 2003.

what is this "144" everyone keeps referring to? - am I looking at a different photo?
the Russian plane in the photo taken at Monino is a Sukhoi T-4

I think they are mistaking it with the TU-144 or 'Concordski'.

Cessna A-37, the attack version of the Cessna T-37. I visited Randolph Air Force Base in 1981 and saw dozens of T-37s there, plus the odd A-37 as well. At one point, the Portugeuse Air Force's aerobatic team used to operate T-37s too - which visited the UK quite a few times in the 70s and 80s.

Indeed I was - and thanks to Bushmaster for identifying the green thing - that tail looked very familiar, but I had no idea of what the rest of it was.

Surprisingly nimble beast when I saw it down south. Must have been effective in it role in Nam.

On a tangent - pics like these sucked me into aviation, airbrushing, and eventually my career... Roy Cross is one of my heros.

And it's great that the new revived Airfix is again using his artwork on the packaging - explosions, crashing planes and all. I love the original Vickers Wellington artwork. The Wellington is at low level over the sea being pursued by two Messerschmott 109s. Very evocative.
