Surely they'll get in a bit of bother for that, I thought you weren't allowed to make your car look like a police vehicle.

We have Police, they drive around in cars with "POLICE" on them.

This is scarcely different to the devout "sharia zone" or "Moslem Area" policing that was discussed a while ago here on PH.

It only differs because so far they haven't confiscated anyone's beer/bacon yet.

Hmmm. Well, 'community patrolling' might well be the way forward countrywide as Police budgets and manpower decline further. Nice for little old ladies (etc etc) out and about, whatever their religion or ethnicity. Assume that's there's some form of accredidation going on, but Mail article is way too lightweight.

But IMHO Hebrew logo-ing a terrible terrible mistake - sauce, goose, gander - can't complain about stickered up cars with arabic in other parts of London. Balkanisation. Also has to be a disincentive to, say, a passing Somali woman flagging the Shomrim down if she felt threatened by Jewish youths.

Also very, very, dodgy grounds once we get to Stop and Account, let alone actually detaining people.

That's the main difference isn't it. These guys are just providing security to synagogues and other Jewish amenities of which there are many in North west London.

They are not going to harrass someone for being gay or wearing a shirt skirt or drinking. They aren't trying to impose a religious law on anybody.

There are regular security threats to the Jewish community and if they can take some of the burden away from and work alongside the police is protecting members of their community then I can't see the problem.

I often support religion if whoever is practising it does not bother/hurt other people with it.
However I see the Police as a control method and when religion gets in on policing then it appears that religious types are seeking to control. It's O.K for the Police to control as they are working to the laws of this land. The grey area is whether these 'religious police' are working towards the same goal.
I don't like the sound of 'militias' or 'religious police', it should be one Police force, serving all.
If this continues to be allowed then where does it stop? Greek Police, Lebanese Police, Muslim Police, Black Community Police? Lots of private forces serving every little community in London, further isolationism, ghettoism...

Are the light bars blue or orange, i wonder?

Do they have a siren?, I would hope not, as they should not exceed the speed limit.

If they fear some sort of muslim terrorist attack on a synagogue , what exactly are 2 blokes in a car going to do to stop it?

One of these clipped a work colleague when she was on her bike, on the A10 coming up to Stamford Hill. She first thought it was a police car but afterwards thought the signs on the side were odd. She shouted something at them (probably not very polite), and asked if they were actual police? They apparently said yes, told her to f off and then drove off at high speed.

I thought she was making it up to be honest, but the marking in that photo and the text is exactly as she described.

That is ridiculous, there is no way that should be allowed. They even have a shield on the side for christs sake. Also the little 'S1' detail on the C pillar to make it look more official too. Bet you 5 hot cross buns they wear epaulettes and nice big tool-belts too rolleyes

I think they missed a trick to be honest, in times of great need they should have called for the Flying Rabbi!

Actually, the more I think about, the more I think you are right. Nothing wrong with gearing up neighbourhood watch around vulnerable targets but no need for a fake police car.
