What a ridiculous idea. Creating new not-concentration-camps-really in the third world.
If we are to intercept boat traffic across the Channel, we should put them on the Isle of Wight. I bet that doesn't happen either.
Concentration camps??? what are you on about, They will be safe and free from the threat of war or persecution so they will be bailed and allowed to live and earn a living in Rwanda until their case is settled. Not that ridiculous as third country processing is the Australian solution that many have called for the last three years or so, while the government was busy with empty gestures, such as blustering they will send in the navy or the like.
They have at last realised that this is the only solution consistent with remaining within the UNHCR. Interestingly enough if you believe Cummings it was also the solution being discussed at the highest levels nearly two years ago but Bojo was putting a stop to it then.
It has been very successful for Australia in deterring migration by boat.
It has also meant Australia has become a country which practices detention without trial. Not something Australia should be proud of. Wonder if this be acceptable for Ukrainian refugees also
I am in no way championing the current situation but it is entirely possible / probable that a significant portion of those arriving are fleeing some kind of war, instability or persecution
There is a lot of that going on in France.I am in no way championing the current situation but it is entirely possible / probable that a significant portion of those arriving are fleeing some kind of war, instability or persecution

You might have noticed the Ukrainians are getting paperwork and approval first, not turning up in dingies? I am in no way championing the current situation but it is entirely possible / probable that a significant portion of those arriving are fleeing some kind of war, instability or persecution

Why are we treating people so badly ?
Why is it treating people badly. Genuine people fleeing a war zone will be put somewhere nice with no war. We cant afford to put the world up in hotels indefinitely. Why are we treating people so badly ?
Rwanda also has a much better climate that the UK. What's not to like?
People not fleeing a warzone will be put off from taking he piss.

They can decide for themselves whether Rwanda is preferable to home. I anticipate that many will opt to stay in France, which has relatively low levels of war, instability or persecution.I am in no way championing the current situation but it is entirely possible / probable that a significant portion of those arriving are fleeing some kind of war, instability or persecution

1) Do nothing but make lots of noise about how they are tackling it (this is what they have done so far and it is still to be proved that this is not still the stage they are at).
2) Break the various conventions concerned (this is effectively what Greece is doing once they got fed up with the number of arrivals and they have been towing back boats into Turkish waters, including people who have landed on Greece).
3. Withdraw from the UN convention on refugees (imagine the shrill shrieking).
4. Work within the law to deter illegal migration by boat.
Option 4 is probably the option most of their voters would be most happy with, but it easier said than done due to the nature of the illegal migration. Stopping migration by land is relatively easily, you build a bloody great wall. All of the eastern frontiers of the EU are being fortified in this manner and the process isn't far off being completed. Boat migration creates the issue of rescue at sea and also whether boats can be returned to the country from which they just set off. That is why there are no easy answers and why the focus has almost inevitably ended up on third country processing. The open borders crowd will hate it, but even some of them might concede that there needs to be some sort of plan once migrant arrivals reach 1K a day on a regular basis.

At vast expense.
a few years ago we had an issue with Squirrels so we shot a few and made "kentucky fried squirrel" - it was ok but not worth the amount of effort involved to skin and gut a squirrel.

Isn't the deal just outsourcing the processing of the applications and the housing in the meantime?

It’s a vote winner! Why are we treating people so badly ?
It’ll be a colossal waste of money.
I was wondering what story would be used to deflect from Partygate when it kicked off again.
However it's a 100% votewinner for a lot of Tories so win-win for BoJo (regardless of it being a colossal and ineffective waste of public money)

Yes. Rwanda is world-famous for being free of war and persecution.
Rwanda is one of Africa's success stories in terms of economic growth and decent governance. It isn't a true democracy of course but the Tutsi minority are rather worried about what might happen if it were. Think GDP was growing at around 7% a year for a decade before the pandemic came along.
