This is the kind of house and estate I’d buy given the opportunity. Despite its size the owners have done a great job of making it look very homely unlike many of the country houses we see in here.

That is lovely and a nice part of the world - great find
Been for sale for a long time though, it's come on off and back on the market annually, I wonder about river flooding or the proximity of the church put people off.

Manageable size and a nicely understated interior.

How does it work with the church bang next door. Punters can turn up when they like? Weddings on a Sunday? Seems curious no mention of it in the details

Is that... a mausoleum? So the dead family will be watching everything that you do on their land?

Nope
At least they’ve demolished the crematorium…

Mausoleum is a good building, wouldn’t concern me.
That and the fact that dead people are now dead and therefore cannot see anything.

Well

The fine parish church (for which there is no chancel obligation) and a privately owned mausoleum are located within the grounds. The owners have taken great care to ensure that visitors are able to cross the grounds to the church with ease, without imposing on the privacy and security of the house and gardens.
I had to google chancel liability. Apparently:
wikipedia said:
Chancel repair liability is a legal obligation on a small number of property owners in England and Wales to pay for certain repairs to a church, often the local parish church.
But I imagine the proximity alone is enough to put some buyers off.

Not quite demolished, they use it as a garden storage shed you can see it on the pictures.

yeah chancel liability.hit the news big time a few years ago and caused more than a few choice words to be launched at solicitors/conveyancers who'd not picked up on this and put in an indemnity policy...

My neck of the woods. A bit plain and uniform inside, but I'd jump at the chance.

Agreed. Pigs ear of an interior despite it looking like it’s expensive.

No floor plan is odd.

Agent being very lazy for a £9.5m property. If you click on the pdf brochure in the listing description there are full floor plans of the property, they just couldn't be bothered uploading them directly to RM.

Very strange for the main staircase to not serve the top floor. Would expect it to be full height, with a skylight making it act as a lightwell. As per tradition.

Must be very odd to climb such a large staircase for it to end with a flat ceiling under one of the bedrooms. Should be able to stand on the galleried landing, look up and be further impressed.

I used to see the owner of this quite a lot, he has done up a few houses locally and developed a bit. This is one of the premier locations for Haslemere.

A couple of nice hifi setups too (in that narrow respect it's like my house).

My old neck of the woods, relatively good value so to speak. Lovely part of the world. Only 10 mins drive to nearest tescos. Some great driving roads on your doorstep.

I wouldn’t put a turntable on the same surface as amplification.

Back to the house - awesome site, but horrid overblown execution - too much house, not enough home.
