I grew up in Guernsey and had always wondered what this place was like. The property isn't visible from any roads and is obviously on a huge plot (for Guernsey - I don't think there are many properties with 35 acres) so its always had an air of mystery. When I was working at a local health club I found out that some of the squash league matches were played there, and I thought how big must that place be to have its own squash court!

https://search.savills.com/property-detail/gbguesg...

Anyway, I don't particularly like the professionally designed interior rolleyes but the house, land and outbuildings are impressive (so is the price tag!)
I originally posted this place nearly 2 years ago, and I think its been posted by others since. Found out today that its finally sold for £24.375m, making it the most expensive Guernsey property by nearly £10m!

Definitely pawn for me.

But far too isolated and not worth £1m in my eyes.
In a way it’s not isolated, because for some bizarre reason they decided to build two houses right next to one another. What are you supposed to do with the other one? I imagine people buying properties in such remote areas don’t want neighbours.

The second cottage is rented out as a holiday home. Probably pays the mortgage on the bigger one.

I dont really understand this point? Iit has electricity, central heating (presumably under floor downstairs as i cant see any radiators), and looks well cared for. The windows look a bit of an unknown, granted, but i fail to see what standards its failing on? The interior isn't my taste, but it does suit the character of the property, and is somewhat more sympathetic than ripping everything out and painting it grey.
There are no pictures of the kitchen, which is often the most expensive room to refurbish/update in a house. I’d guess that this needs doing, but also as the existing kitchen isn’t large (about the size of an adjoining butler’s pantry) much more work would be required to re-configure the ground floor layout to accommodate a contemporary kitchen/entertaining space befitting a 3 million quid house. 1920’s houses are not known for their spacious open-plan kitchen areas.

I think it'd make a pretty cool holiday place so long as the weather was like it was on the day they took the pictures.

Peace and quiet. Would be difficult dealing with the second part as an AirBnb if you were't there all the time though.

It was for sale for ages, but agreed it's stunning inside and out.

I don't view isolation as the lack of neighbours - I actually like having neighbours - unlike most folk here hehe

5 miles from Colchester. I like that a lot. Plenty of scope to modernise and make use of the outbuildings etc. 81 acres with a wildlife marsh too.

Not my thing, but that's a really nice place in a cracking setting and a bit of a bargain imo - you're getting a lot for your money.

Let’s take things a step further with an island off the Mull of Kintyre. Actually three islands. The house may be a letdown though.

I fish off of there and I can tell you that most of the time that boat would be tied up and you'd be completely isolated. Aside from the weather you have 12knot tides and serious swells to deal with. Even with a 23ft boat with twin engine there's limited days we can get out in this area. I'd be giving this one a miss !!

Loch Lomond Island

Pretty sure the northernmost island on the loch sold for around £1m a few months ago, had a wee house on it though.

No doubt the LLNPA would not like the idea of building anything unless knitted from organic haggis pelt and RTR plus the proximity to most of Scotland's ned population mean none of its private.

In isolation, I'd have that in a heartbeat and build a bothy of some description.

Unfortunately, as alluded to, it's nowhere near as private as you'd think. Luss is mobbed in the summer for a start, and the fact it's a stopping point for folk on the water.

Great idea on paper; cracking island in a stunning location, with easy access to amenities but in reality, it's also a nope for that same reason.
