Viewed a house we might offer on- it is a 400 year old barn conversion that was completed 25-30 years ago. It has Underfloor heating in the main part of the house, a couple of wood burners and oil for the stanley cooker/water.

However, it also had a couple of air to air heater units that the current owners used most (mainly because of their age, they found that easier than chopping wood for the wood burner)

Anyway, these things were ugly! They looked like the DIY Aircon unit I installed in my garden office. Not a particularly attractive thing to have on the inside of your house! Is there a modern Solution to that? Have these things moved on in the last 30 years?

You can also get low level console units that go in the place of where a radiator would. Would involve a repipe, but potentially less visually intrusive.

Out of interest – why would a house/barn with a couple of wood burners, radiators (both regular type, and some of the low-level skirting board time) run off an oil stove, and underfloor heating in some parts (presumably run off the same stove) also have these things? Are they simply way way cheaper to run than the alternatives? My wife wants to rip them out and just wear jumpers in winter!
