I have an un switched 1 gang extension cable which has been causing this dull man no end of bother.

Went to use it with the lawnmower, no worky.

Checked the fuse, ok

Checked continuity on all three wires, all bleeping and giving the same resistance readings. But still not working.

Decided it was likely to be a bad connection in the first 6 inches of wire where it leaves the plug. Cut that bit out and rewired the plug.

Hooray, now works with my DeWalt battery charger, and just for good measure tested it with something which draws a bit more power so also tested it with an angle grinder, all good.

Went to use it with the lawnmower again and the bloody thing doesn't work. What am I missing? Is there going to be a bad wire somewhere which can't support the draw from a mower but can do lower loads?

Did you check the lawnmower works if plugged in without the extension lead?

It is, but it needs mains power for the spark plug.

Did you check for isolation between the wires? IE L-N, L-E, N-E.

Reminds me of a joke…

Guy goes to the doc and says he has pain everywhere. Doc asks him to touch where it hurts… he touches his head, elbow, knee, leg… doc eventually says “you have a broken finger”…

I didn’t say it was a funny joke…

Put it in the bin. It won't work in there either but at least you'll then feel obliged to buy a new one.

There's a car advert out at the moment that says the electric motor uses petrol...

I'm intrigued, can you share the make and model of your wonder mower.

Have you tried a different extension lead?

The mower works with a different extension lead.

I have used the now faulty extension lead with a chainsaw and a hedge trimmer, can't recall using it with the mower.

Maybe it's never been mower compatible. Doesn't like being on grass.
