Left the summer break choice to the OH, so we're off to somewhere called Cavtat in somewhere called Croatia next weekend for a week. Never been there or even heard of it (Cavtat, that is). Hints anyone?

Quite small, nice harbour, and ferryable to Dubrovnik in about an hour as I recall. HTH.

Went in 1979 when it was still Yugosalvia (not much help I know but I do remember it as being a very nice fishing village with just one massive hotel on the peninsula).

It's pronounced 'tsavtat', for one thing "Two beers, please" in Croatian is pronounced 'dvah peevo moleem', but most young people should speak some English. Take plastic sandals for swimming as the shoreline is rocky and full of sea urchins. You can eat these - just cut out the 'mouth' on the underside with a pen knife, and scoop out the orange roes with a spoon. Enjoy
