Depends what you want to use it for. You could still have a 306 as an only car, maybe not so with the Willy.
Good ones are out there, they just take some finding My friend had 2 1.9 205s in a row and then moved onto an L-reg Clio Williams. Was so excited when he brought it round for a demo but a bit disappointed by it in the end - for me it didn't live up to the legend. Decided my 309Gti was just as much hot hatch fun for a lot less cash. Like the looks of them though So there is only one answer. A Citroen ZX 16v. If only I could find one. Xsara VTS! I had two Clio 1.8 16v's, drove a few Williams, tried a 306 Rallye and the wife owned a Xsara VTS for 6years. For me it would always be the Clio over the 306 - I just didn't like the 306. Didn't feel it was a nice place to be and also felt that the 6spd 'box didn't best exploit what remains one of the best 4-pots ever. (for me the 6-spd was only ever a marketing gimmick) The VTS absolutely made the best of the incredible tractability of that engine. Handling was a bit more interesting than the 306 and the interior, although very of the era, was a much cosier place. The Clios though - well you just can't beat the on limit handling. Hilarious fun.

I will never understand the appeal of the Escort Cosworth.
Anyway...Loon...did you see the article in Motorsport I think, in one of the last two issues with regards to the Tripoli GP? Shedding some new information that looks to clarify the old myths. Apols if this is old news, only caught it reading the mags dad had brought over to France last week. Been years since I last bought a Motorsport.

I didn't see it no, I have a feeling that will be in one of the issues that is with my father. In France funnily enough. I will see him in a few weeks so will ask. O/T Exige V6 Roadster. Modern day Dino 246 GTS. Really.

My 42k would go on something like an original CSL or the nicest 60s / early 70s 911 I could find within budget. If it looks like the original, drives like the original and sounds like the original then why not? The only thing you're missing is pub bragging rights, but you'd have to spend significantly more than £42k to get those.

Really. Not as pretty as the original, and lacking a bit in poke even by the standards of the day? How, exactly, did you get this new job?

I understand the logic, but I just don't think I could ever bring myself to do it. There are lots of "real" cars I'd spend my £42k on before I bought a fake - even a very pretty, high quality, good fake.

When I did the transplant, most people were looking for the same lump from the BX. Cheaper to buy, and tended to be less thrashed at the time. A higher proportion of those died for 205s than the MIi6s, I'd wager.
