Thankyou4calling said: The thing is people do form opinions and I can't be the only person who cares what others think surely. I certainly draw conclusions, rightly or wrongly based on peoples cars, dress, watch etc. Anyhow, does anyone have one of these and can they give me the gen without a test drive ie will a powerfully built, tall bloke fit, does it have some urge, what options are a must? Can't comment on the car itself, but would advise against adding options on a lease deal. You will get charged the full cost of the options over your lease term (2 years?) so adding £2500 of options will cost you another £100 per month. Not sure how good the standard spec is on one of these, but the C250cdi Sport my OH leased a couple of years back was pretty well specced as standard (ipod/bluetooth/parking sensors/auto tailgate) so MB dont appear to be as stingy as they once were with kit.

Unless it's the SLK55AMG it's a ladies car. I guess if you are a woman it's ok...bonus points if you are a woman hairdresser...

You might look a bit of a tool in an SLK if you're big/tall/small
Deal sounds good though. Fixed

With the roof up, no. With it down? well there was a guy in one behind me today and I laughed to myself at the paradox that he probably thought he looked cool but looked a bit girly.

How much would you need to save to be the object of scorn among your peers? I wouldnt let the opinion of my peers decide the car I drive. You need to ask yourself if you actually care if people think you look daft.

I bet he'd have been gutted if he knew the guy in front of him in the Fiesta thought he looked like a poofter.

I'm amazed and amused at the differences in attitude between England and Germany. Hairdressers car? Here the hairdressers are so badly paid they drive old Golfs and Korean tinboxes. SLK's are driven by mature, well-off conservatives, both men and women in equal proportions. But to get back to the original question: If you like it, buy it. F*ck what anybody else thinks, who's life is it anyway? Strap yer balls on and do it

It's exactly the same in the UK in reality, but the politics of envy is so strong that people in Ford Fiestas try to cheer themselves up by convincing themselves that they're somehow superior to the bloke behind in a Mercedes because "D'uh, well it a gay car innit". Bit sad really.

They are certainly more feminine compared to some of its rivals. Whether that bothers you is only something you can answer.

Front end styling is a bit fussy but overall I find the current AMG Sport (styling) models to be a significant improvement in the looks department. Less curves & more purposeful, if that makes sense. Seen a 350 & a few 55's recently. All parked up, so unfortunately can offer no opinions on the femininity/masculinity/other of the drivers/owners!

great car, cheap as chips to run! My dad has one, iirc he is paying £230 month and he gets mid 50s, he loves it coming from a xj8
Nothing wrong with a derv cabby! After running some proper drivers cars in the past I now have 2! (tt tdi cab and a4 tdi cab) They drive great and for our cluttered roads, are low cost motoring!!!! Some of the uneducated righteous responses about derv and convertible not being the done thing are hilarious etc, you are only a man if you drive a rwd v8! ha ha In an ideal world we all would love to run v8-v10-v12 cars but we all know how ruinous they would be as a daily etc! If you are a lottery winner then sure fill yer boots, but if like me you dont want to p*ss your cash away on fuel=tax then do the smart thing!

Thanks for the comments and particularly Chillo. Some good advice there. I'd love to get 40 plus MPG and have a bit of urgency too. Iv'e asked for a full quote on one today.

Iv'e asked for a full quote on one today. i did that, got suckered in by the 10,000 mile headline price.. when the quote comes in for a more sensible 15k-20k(its a diesel after all) and a few nice options: heated seats, rear park(rear vis is crap), rain sensing wipers(these aren't standard!) and airscarf its pretty much £500 a month - sod that! also investigate Mercs damage returns policy, its well documented on here that they try and have your trousers down for "wear and tear" type damage come hand back time

Buy an audi TT and get off this forum. I love beautiful cars and i enjoy fast cars. Using the car as some sort of posing pouch and wanting to upset people with top spec rep mobiles is not what pistonheads is about.

I got one of these a while back with a few options - really pleased with it - not the fastest thing in the world but still reasonably quick. (coming from a Z4M)
only thing I don't like is the sound but its not a deal breaker for me - I would certainly try one first though before purchase.
I got mine from a broker as the local dealers couldn't touch the price
