Mine went wrong. A lot.
That's what scares me to hell about these.

BMW/Merc/Audi have hundereds of owners, lots of independents who know these cars backwards.

The Phaeton is the complete opposite, very rare and noone outside of the dealer network has actually ever seen one. If you have a problem with it, you're screwed.

Been browsing the prices of the 6.0 W12, blimey! they're a bit strong to say the least. £30-35K for an 03/53. Just another £10K will get you the 2 door Coupe version with the Bentley badge.

That's the exact car that got me thinking about getting one.

I didn't want to draw you lot's attention to it though. hehe

O.K. so, not a Phaeton, what instead? Comfortable, mile eating, fully loaded, reliable, roughly 15 - 17 K ?
5 litre, V12 twin turbo, 500bhp S-class. There was one on eBay a while back which I was considering sdelling me soul for. £15K.

I was just thinking the other day that you get a lot of car for your money with a VW Phaeton.

The idea having VW build quality (Not always good before somebody mentions it!!) and it's not the sort of car that says "LOOK AT ME"

Get a 3.0 TDI

I was just going to mention the XJ. What about one of those Chrysler 300 jobs?

I dont think it is fair to the Phaeton to even utter it in the same sentence as a Chrysler 300.

It had some of the best wheels on a car I've ever seen and had TABLES for the rear seat passengers. It was quite the dog's danglies too. Can't find that particular one any more so I guess it's been sold. I reckoned it'd make a good LPG candidate.

In fact, these look good and the first two have the wheels I liked in the one I saw previously:

http://search.ebay.co.uk/250303907952 - over budget but only 40-something-k miles

http://search.ebay.co.uk/230295662492 - cheap, 70+K miles, LWB.

http://search.ebay.co.uk/320306663107 - over budget, 60K miles and LPG converted already.

I've gotta say Mars that the second one is very interesting. I live in North London so Chiswick is just around the corner.

Thanks. smile

Only one car fits that bill - Audi A8 - take your pick from the diesels both of which are quick and insanely refined and loaded.

You're welcome.

Actually there's a little self-interest in my wanting a PH'er to buy one of these. I bought my 3-litre Legacy last November. I've always liked Legacys and when they put a 3-litre flat-6 engine in one with a much more modern interior I couldn't wait until my old car was old-enough to justify trading it in. However, less that 6 months into ownership I caught onto these S600s and I just can't shake off the feeling that I ought to take the hit and trade the Leggy in for one. So, I just want a PH'er to tell me they're as awesome as I reckon they are, or they're not worth it. smile

I dunno about Audis Nubbin. They're all over the place where I live - i.e. common as muck - and I think their image is shot at the moment.

I'm seriously persuaded by Mars' recommendation though.

87K miles, FBMWSH

£13500

£600 for DMS sillyness.

Essentially one of the best and fastest cars in the world for buttons.

That is silly money for what you get isn't it?
