I'm looking at changing my car soon and I've been looking at the G20 BMW 330e, they look to have a good blend of performance, economy and practicality and all for under £17k (my budget). Is there anything else that I've missed? I need the seats/doors and space that the 330e has as it's a family run about, but I'm wondering if any other cars would be a better choice? The car hasn't got to be a hybrid, but a hybrid does seem to fit my needs if it can run on full electric for a reasonable amount of miles.

Any thoughts?

You are better off going for something like a Model 3. Why do you want the hassle of running a 330e once the manufacturer's warranty on the hybrid system has run out after 6 years from new?

I know, but Teslas are just so bland.

Is the 330e unreliable? Was the previous version?

So no, nothing better than the 330e lol

Thanks, but i'm not sure that something like a Maserati is really a good car for doing lots of short journeys.

Insurance is a good point and I will need to look into that. 33E doesn't seem too bad though?

I’ve never driven one but those that have rave about the i3 if you want a BMW that fits your use case/needs…

The i3 is too small for what I need. Funny looking thing too IMO.

The i3 is really bad to drive outside of a town. I’m always very confused when reading that they’re ’fun to drive’ - I’ve driven plenty of them and the driving dynamics are really quite shocking for a BMW

Agreed. Horrid little things to drive.

Toyota Corolla hybrid?

Brilliant around town, good MPG and a 10y warranty when serviced at Toyota (who are great to deal with)

Plenty in your budget, stay away from the older 2.0 as it compromises boot capacity

For further context, my Wife uses a 2020 GR version for her work as a community Nurse and does lots (and lots) of short trips - some days she'll do 15-20 journeys of less than 1 mile.
3 years in and it's only needed regular servicing, front tyres are going to last circa 15k.

19mph and 46mpg average..

I imagine that the Toyota will be bomb proof and very easy to own, but I just have no desire to own one, not sure why, well 1 reason why actually, the CVT gearbox!

The CVT is perfect around town.

I just don't like them, which is a shame because the cars do look quite smart.

I would like a car that can run for at least 20 miles on pure electric. My budget doesn't stretch to an electric car that I would want like a Jag ipace, plus if I go full electric I would probably want/need a proper wall box which is another £1k

I dont understand anyone who drives a CVT and is ok with it tbh....I drove a hybrid with one and it was like going back to the 1970s

I'm the other way. I had a Prius hire car for a few months and for school runs (10 miles x 2 per day, slooooow urban traffic) I thought it was absolutely brilliant, perfect tool for the job. Not particularly great for NVH on a motorway, but around town it was fabulous.

The ones I've driven have a real bad lag when you go to pull away at a junction or roundabout and are awful if you push the car a bit quicker. Horrible things IMO

Surely for lots of small journeys you need an economical small car ?

I need a bigger car. This car will be used for some longer trips, but the majority are short trips.
