We have modified the back of the mould now so it is closer to the Aston Martin but IVA compliant for lights. The side strakes could also be changed. The rear end is now better.
All looking good, glad to see people are thinking wider than just doing a strict DBR1 replica.
Stuart - any thought about doing a double fairing on the rear behind both driver and passenger and also one without doors (clean sided) and a wind deflector that finishes where the doors currently start to ease entry/exit without doors ?
Sorry, this is sounding like a shopping list but I'm starting to form ideas for my next project as I am starting to get enough domestic airmiles to cash in. Will probably be looking to inatall a 2.5l KLDE v6 on throttle bodies unless I can get the six carb set up working and then I may have to re-thing or build another engine.
Finally, does anyone know what the closest RAL number is to the light green Ferrari 250 GTO that has recently sold for $35m, I think this would really suit the Replicar with black trim and wheels but remember this was my idea first :-) ?

at first i was fascinated about the idea building such a DB1 style kit and i was near buying one.
glad that i´m waited and watching further pictures of the car comming up the www:
imo, the body is way out of proportion and looks kind of ugly, similar the bugatti replicas based on VW Beetles.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.
IMO the Replicar is a dbr1 inspired car not a mm perfect replica. If you want one of those there are at least two available but you will need a budget at least an order of magnitude greater.
I think it is a pretty, 50's style sports kit car that can be built for a sensible budget and will go and handle well. You can make it look like a dbr1 if you want or just a good looking sports car.

The Replicar is as good an evocation of the style and feel of a DBR1 as I have seen and I attend most of the major UK car shows every year. The car looks right and feels right which is just how it should be, It is not intended to be an accurate copy, as I understand this design. In terms of cost of build it is absolutely on its own for exceptional value for money. Nothing else in this price range comes anywhere close. As ugg10 says correctly, the other offerings cost very much more than the Replicar. Just started building a new demo car, should be at Stoneleigh. I will be fitting seats that sit lower as I always felt high in the green car. I am also going to fit lowering springs to the standard MX5 shocks as the green car has high ground clearance. This is due to the light weight of the Replicar compared to the MX5 which is 45% heavier at 960 kgs. Rear GRP modifications now made and include an Aston Martin style rear end that houses lights in accordance with IVA regulations, of course we need reverse/fog and reflectors, the 1959 car did not, see here.
Not sure if I should show a complete change and fit alloy wheels in matt black or anthracite, just to show versatility that minor details can create, that's moving away though from the original intention.
