Wotcha !

I had my first outing (finally) at Croft back in May and managed to finish both rounds which was the aim.

Looking at the wear on the front tyres I think I'm running too much negative camber at -6deg because I was getting understeer then oversteer when the b*ggers finally gripped. I'd prefer a more balanced setup so I'm about to dial it down to 3 or 3.5.

Can anyone advise on castor angle ?

Thanks !
Richard

we run about -6 on the front, not sure you can get it down to -3 without changing the top wishbone arms for longer ones, its easy to screw the rose joints out too far, leaving only a little thread left if you wind the camber off.

what are your dampers and tyres like, and how hard are you driving the car? tuscans dont feel that nice until you push them hard, as they dont load up properly. and will tend to understeer then snap oversteer.

also dampers not working properly and knackered tyres will do the same thing.

have you got any photos of hte car under hard cornering?

You need to get the car to a dtec round, then there will be plenty to compare with..

Hi Graham

I was probably driving at 90% of myself because i was learning the car and that's probably 70% of the car's capability. A couple of times I felt I'd left my braking too late and the car understeered and then gripped. Maybe I just need to corner faster idea

It could well be naff tyres. I bought some used jobbies from one of the Ginetta Supercup guys that look in better nick - they're a cm narrower but should be ok IF they go on the rims.

Maybe its just track time and familiarisation that I need. My first round was a bit of a handful including 3 spins - had a spongy brake pedal having rebuilt the rear master cylinder the night before. So not exactly condusive conditions for learning the car's handling characteristics. The second round was much better but I was being cautious to guarantee a finish. I have 2 more double header weekends in September so there's opportunity to be a bit more committed... or crash.

I'd love to come along to one of the rounds. I can't come to Snetterton (having my eyes lasered the day before) but if I haven't emigrated to Oz by October, I might come along to Oulton Park on the 13th.

Cheers
Richard

Yeah it is. The car has been a labour of love since I bought it in 2005 and only drove it for the first time this year.

Track time is one of the few things that are cheaper over there but the best thing is as an engineer, I'll get paid sh*t loads more in Oz than I get here = more green to spend on racing.

No. 27 is a good car and I'm really pleased with how it's turned out. So I couldn't part with it now.
