When we were in the area in 2003, we stayed in Betws-y-coed. Nice hotel, but can't remember the name

Did 'The Triangle' yesterday!
Not a bad length of tarmac. It's no wonder why it gets used for 'testing'(!) and photography.
I managed to do a couple of 'laps' before the rains came, each one under 8 mins . Being a Friday, it was nice and quiet so the experience was not sullied in any way. No caravans up there, folks!
'thepickle' included the B5105 - which is a must! Not as open and free flowing but technical and challenging. Also the A4212. Yes!
It's amazing that more people don't live in Wales, enjoying the scenery, the roads and the, er, roads! But then that would mean that there would be more of the Welsh (!)(?).......Mmmmm.
I think that some of the routes up in North Yorks are comparable, eg up towards Castleton. Probably. What I must do one day is, what I guess we all want to do, is to 'tour' North of the Border. Do you remember what J.C said when asked what his favourite race tracks of all time were.?? After stating a few he then said "Scotland" !

I've just come back from a little drive, and I thought I'd give the triangle a go, as I hadn't done it before. I'm still grinning. Those have to be some of the best roads from around here, I can't remember having so much fun in this car before. After the first lap, I just had to do it again, despite the weather, with a fair bit of rain in parts. At the end of the second lap, I couldn't help myself going up again! It was snowing a bit though, so the pace was more sedate, but still, what a thrill. I am a bit disappointed that I couldn't find where all the pics were taken, but I was by myself and paying attention to the road surface as it's quite bumpy up there!

Glad you enjoyed the Triangle Alex, they are superb roads. But.............
(and sorry if this sounds like me being a killjoy) going round and round isn't the smartest of ideas irrespective of how fantastic/fun the roads are.
Take a look at your map next time you head up there and rather than driving the Triangle several times just do it once (or twice if you must) and head off to other similar roads nearby.
If you want some excellent ( for which read even more challenging) recommendations that are not so well known as the Triangle PM me.

That's fair enough and I wouldn't normally do that but I got there late and enjoyed it so much I had to take as much in as possible before to get back. I'm only in Wrexham so it's not like it's really far to drive!
Also, even if I agree that going round and round isn't the best way to do it, I enjoyed it more every time as I knew what was coming up, so I didn't have to slow down too much for the fast corners...
This thread caused me to do 386 miles today!! The Triangle is awesome, despite the poor weather. I could have happily spent the entire day going round and round in circles. The 4212 is as good as anything I've ever driven on, and so little traffic to stop the fun. Absolutely brilliant. Want to go back tomorrow but not sure that's a wise idea!
If you've never been and you like driving, get yourself there!

I've got a day off work tomorrow ( Car is in the MOT station right now, fingers crossed ) so i'm gonna tkae the chance to go for a drive out. Gonna sling across the m62 from leeds and head towards ruthin - ive marked some of the roads from this thread on my map.
Where is this 'Horsehoe pass?'
All being well I will report back tomorrow evening.

Should one wish to plan a weekend away in the general area of the triangle, would people have some recommendations of places to stay or base oneself near?
Accomodation for a group of 10-15 would be likely.
Any regular users have some suggestions?

Try the Groes Inn, near Conwy, decent place, good grub, friendly staff.

Thanks Barry.
Do you live in the area Pickle? I know there's hundreds of them but I got overtaken by a red GTI in the Triangle area September who seemed to know the roads quite well. Knew I was going past the Triangle but I was on my way to Snowdonia and wanted to get some walking in. Sadly it was dark by the time I drove back the other way (and I was shattered).
So, if you overtook a silver Puma in September that was feeling its way through the darkness, and then blinded you by looking too longingly at your car to remember to switch his main beam off... then I apologise.

If it was dark it wouldn’t have been me. I’m not local either, I’m an interloper from across the border!! As sad as it sounds though, I’d love to get spotted by someone from here Incidentally, I was there again on Saturday last weekend. I had a very interesting (ahem!) run over the Horseshoe Pass with a red Nissan 200sx following me
Hi, This is the first ive heard about 'The Triangle' looks fantastic though.
I live in Rochester, kent, so it would take me a good 8ish hours to get to north wales....
has anyone done this sort of journey just to drive the triangle??
Is it worth 8 hours of M25, M1....... ???
Reccommended times, days for best run aswell please.
Thanks
Lee

I reckon it would be well worth staying over one night or two to drive all around North Wales, but not 8 hours there and 8 hours back the same day just for a 10 mile stretch of road (is it even that long?), no matter how good it is. If you like driving it would make a great weekend though!

240 miles, so 4.5 hours plus any traffic.
I dunno what the roads are like where you are, but the right side of the evo triange is about the best road I've ever driven, fast, fast fast.
