rx8 VAG 20v motor
Discussion
Going back to the (old) comments regarding forged bits, only the crank and pistons are forged. The conrods are cast.
On cupra.net, the agreed limits are around the 300bhp or as stated between 300-350 lb/ft. Having said this, I wouldn't take a 1.8T anywhere near that as it only takes a coil pack to go (notorious on 1.8Ts), a heavy load and the wrong gear or a spirited boot off the lights for the rods to potentially bend.
I have an AMK stamped 1.8T and it was for this reason I didn't up the power. The extra oomph isn't justified by the £1000+ cost of fully forging the bottom end.

Nope, too much work on so its been put into storage until time can be found to finish it off.
That's a shame...I've got the opportunity to purchase an RX8 with a buggered engine and have been looking at options in terms of a transplant...an LS1 is what really tickles my fancy (have you guys dropeed an LS in the RX8?)but the VAG looked an interesting option.Fastdruid said:
I made the presumption this was a private/hobby build, having just realised who 'tinker' is (always odd finding someone on a forum you've met in real life) he probably already knows how to get the VAG engine working with the RX-8 clocks...
Seeing the clocks "stuck" on those numbers, is never good to think what happened for them to go like that!dean350z said:

nice conversion, better engine than mazada's rotary .
there were more rx8's breaking than running rx8's on ebay this week.
That's why I was keen as mustard to find out about this conversion, the one I've been offered is in good nick for only £600, throw a few quid at the conversion and you'vew got yourself a 280bhp rear wheel drive car...I need to do sme research to see if anyone else out there is doing it.there were more rx8's breaking than running rx8's on ebay this week.
I must be sick in the head because if I had an RX8, I'd want it with the Rotary.
The only reason I haven't bought one is because of the road tax.
I think if I ever sold my Cerbera, I'd replace it with an RX8 and get keep the rotary engine. Lovely cars.
That said, interesting project and I hope it goes well for you.

I think you are more "sick in the head" because you wont buy one due to car tax - its not exactly a big expense in car ownership. What is it, an extra £200 a year over the top of most things? The only reason I haven't bought one is because of the road tax.

Well not really in my situation. I already have the Cerb as a 'special' car so I would be buying the RX8 for going to work/running about in.The RX8 is already well known for being thirsty, that and the high tax bill makes it too expensive to run as my second car.
