If you get a pre 2006 rx8 you pay less tax same amount as my old mk2 mx5
Are you sure? Looking online it looks like it'll be £475 a year...lycara said:
Yea got to be registerd before march 2006 I have also managed 220 miles out of mine to a tank of fuel can get more some have seen 300 miles to a tank
I'll second this too.Edited by lycara on Thursday 20th December 13:38
Normal driving would give 220-250 miles, across Milton Keynes (roundabouts...) would return 180 miles, and a long motorway drive would easily hit 300 miles.

Lycara is correct. I had a pre-2006 RX8 and paid around half of the top tax price (so around £220 per year IIRC).
This is correct, though that has unsurprisingly gone up since then. Cars over 225g/km are band K if registered pre- March 2006. Band K is currently £270/year. Post- March 2006 cars are band M, which is now £475 a year.Hey guys, I'm new here on the forum. I've swapped a few rx8's with rx7 engines. I've noticed that you both have used transmissions from the stock rx8 5 and 6 speed(both worthless for power-even for stock). You could have used the stock rx7 fd 5speed(which is good for 600hp)and has a longer tail with the shifter position pushed further back. I have built a hybrid transmission for my previous swap, that can be found here: http://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-u... As I'm interested in doing this conversion I was hoping this transmission along with a a4 1.8t engine would not need so much cutting of the firewall. The only problem is that the fd transmission would need a slight modification for the ppf. I'm thinking that would be better than cutting the firewall. Any ideas on this?

They can be bought used for a couple hundred pounds, or 'as new' in various states of tune from the US for a few thousand.
They'll put out an easy 230bhp/200lbft NASP, just with intake/exhaust and mapping. With a bit of work over 300bhp and 9000rpm+ is possible, still NASP. The stroke is short enough to still give reasonable piston speeds at 11,000rpm, if revs are your cup of tea...
Or you can add FI for mental power upgrades.
The engine is also lighter than the original MX5 engine and has a lovely V6 soundtrack.
Just listen to this one in an MX3 when it heads out of the woods...

VAG lump just offers easy torque, as far as I can see. Meh.

A 1.8T VAG engine is lighter than an S2k engine? Really?
The S2000 engine alone is apparently about 160kg, and the transmition on it is huge (and heavy), a few people have considered them in kit cars and quickly been put off my weight and size of the bell housing.tones61 said:
Considering come in the US have dropped LS engine and even 2JZ engines in the RX8 I can't see the cissy unit being too difficult. Will be nice to see if they can get everything working with the engine in though. Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
