Good to know that it is all fixed now.

Did they find and diagnose the suspension issues themselves? I ask because I have some doubts about the behaviour of (especially) the rear suspension on my C320 and they might be an option.
Yes Merc Medics did everything, definitely recommended by me. While it wasn’t cheap, the turnaround time was pretty quick. The garage was recommended to me by SE Autoworks (who look after my S4) and Hepworth garages (who look after neighbours various Porsche’s) in Guildford.

Fingers crossed the worst is sorted!

She’s had a bath and looking ready for an early 2000’s Puff Daddy video :-)

Looking good.

I was just running back through the past 5.5 years of my C55's history under mine and the previous owner, a lot of the same stuff on mine.

I think it's easy to pick up a car needing work, which could be several grand to get it back to good condition, then after that it'll still need stuff every year but not to at the same rate.

Hi All, looking for some advice on where to hook up the leisure adapter for a CTEK charger ideally with pictures :-).

The ‘hoops’ are too small for the negative battery terminal or earth. Thanks

Ps mot next week (fingers crossed)

I put the bolts that clamp the battery terminals through the 'hoops' of the connector that came with my MXS5.0, rather than try and fit them to the battery terminals themselves, which, as you say, are too big. I then routed the lead towards the strut top and tie-wrapped the cable to the black plastic on the strut top. I then bought an extension lead and routed it out between the headlight and the bumper where there is a rubber seal and was able to fully close the bonnet. Subsequently I have seen people with other cars bring the connector out to the base of the windscreen, which might be a better idea, but I've not tried it.

Great shout on under the windscreen - don’t even need to lift the bonnet now. Went with the earth terminal in the end also:

I like the idea of not having to open the bonnet. I might investigate whether I can do the same, though it looks like the standard connector, at 400mm, is 10cm shorter than the indicator one.

1 year update and just sailed through an MOT (after a £2,700 refurbishment).

Mileage covered in the last year - 2,500

Costs incl. spark plug service, tyres, engine + gearbox mounts, drop links, wishbones, stepper motors, parking brake, heat shield - £4k

Let’s see what year 2 brings

Yikes! A tough first year, hopefully these relatively minor yet costly things get the car back on track, the fundamentals of the car must be solid, enjoy now u have 12 months of freedom 😀

Some different experiences to report, we’ll start with the positive - the SL Shop now stocks CLK parts :-)

Even arrives with sweets!

Now the not so good part, I have a battery drain and recalling on past experience - https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I have started the same process on the CLK:

When I first connected the amp meter (positive battery terminal connected + positive amp meter prong on negative battery lead + negative amp meter prong on negative battery side), I was greeted with 2.2 rating falling to 0.2. On opening doors or boot this jumps back up to 2.2 and falls back to 0.2 after a few minutes.

What else shall I check for a quick win??

Ps battery needs charging every 2 weeks if the car isn’t used.

Does yours have a CD changer in the glovebox? That was the culprit on my C55, removed and no more battery issues.

Just a front loading CD, nothing in the boot or glovebox. Good suggestion though.

Amps have dropped to 0.16 somehow - I’ve left the amp meter connected for a couple of hours. Googling brings up air circulation or seat connections, which I can’t work out.

My 2005 SLK55 has a nasty habit of activating the rest function just after the car is stopped and locked........ I takes a chunk out of the battery if not noticed as it seems to run for far longer than it should.

Looking at an old repair invoice for my car from the previous owner, there was an issue where an aftermarket tracker was keeping the system awake, and the battery drain was 0.15A, which when the tracker was disconnected dropped to 0.05A.

I've never done this myself, but if I were trying to find a current leak, then I'd probably remove each fuse in-turn and bridge the contacts with the ammeter until I came across one with an unexpectedly high reading.

I’m a bit heavy handed to be honest to pull all the fuses 1 by 1. I’ve done this on a previous car and bust something that cost more to fix.

I’m watching the amp meter through the window and while it is sitting somewhere between 0.16 and 0.22, it spikes up to 1.5 to 2 ish every now and again which would indicate something is turning on e.g. climate related.

Doors and boot are closed. Windows down and bonnet open. Anything to try (happy to unplug devices), thanks.

Ps tested so far - unplugged front seats, removed fuses accessible from the side of the dashboard which seem to include central locking etc, checked doors and boot, removed CD. The fuse box by the firewall (opposite side to the battery) is a mine field of cables, too scared to pull anything.

There was something at the back of my mind regarding car alarms and I've just happened across this in a for-sale advert on MB Club UK:

"and that the CLK has the battery drain issue that many of them have with alarm sounder, where the car battery will die withing a few days due to the alarm using the battery power"

https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/2008-w209-clk2...

I suppose an alarm system might be the kind of thing that routinely polls some level or status and takes a pulse of power as a result?
