Hi All, well, I've just entered Porsche Ownership having picked up my 2009 Boxster 2.9 from RSJ Sports Cars smile

My question is, what is the standard brake finish on these 2.9's? I thought the calipers were painted Grey/Black? The paint appears to have worn off my brake calipers (see pic) - is this normal? Or is this how they come from the factory?

At a guess it looks like they have been cleaned with a somewhat vigorous wheel cleaning substance and not rinsed afterwards. Are the other corners OK?

It's the new Italian Marble effect caliper paint from Porsche.

Option M008 costs £800.

Some of the super strength acid-based brake dust/wheel cleaners will attack any paintwork in the surrounding area, especially if left on too long. From your picture the black paint on your crested wheel centre looks to have been partially removed, this could be the same problem...

Take a front wheel off, have a look behind the caliper and see what the finish is, assuming the the paint is good on the back. Then decide if you want to go for a caliper repaint or just live with it.

Be careful though, once you start refurbishing things it tends to show up other bits that may need work. Be warned! Before you know it you will be into caliper refurbs, wheel re-painting and new centre caps! hehe

If you have just picked it up then I would suggest taking it back to the supplying dealer. I agree with the others, it has been caused by overuse of acidic wheel cleaner.

Not normal no and they come charcoal black from the factory.

Thanks chaps. Well, let's see if RSJ are as good as their reputation - hopefully they'll sort them out.....

How come you didnt see this when you looked at the car? Its pretty obvious?

Or did you just buy it on trust?

Yes, bought on trust on Joel's (RSJ) description of it being immaculate. I did point it out at the time of collection, but Darren & Joel at RSJ seemed to think they came like that from the factory. I think we've cleared up that they don't.....

Its the first 2.9 Boxster we have had as we normally sell 3.4 "S" versions so not entirely sure.
I didnt think they were actually jet black from the factory as its unlikely all 4 can change colour on a 3 year old car.
Anyone else got any pictures of their calipers on a 2.9 we can compare against ?

I believe 2.9 are black unless this was a special order which will be listed on the original invoice.

Dave

Have you got a picture of the other 3 calipers ?
It almost looks like you have Silver calipers with a black oval Porsche logo ...

Sorry, but it just looks like corrosion to me.

2.9 calipers are much darker than that. Pic of mine during a clean.

It's definitely not been caused by corrosion. Something (i.e., an acidic wheel cleaner or similar) has taken the bulk of the paint off them. Here are pics of all 4 of the calipers.

Yes, agree, I just meant broadly speaking.

Hopefully you'll get it sorted. If you have no joy there are plenty of ways to restore the original look without it costing too much.

We have put in a call to Porsche Reading to check if this car was ordered with Silver brake calipers as it was an option.
Could be wrong but they look Silver with a Black logo.
Thats what we assumed anyway , not ever seen 4 calipers all completely lose a full coat of paint and all have such a clear border around the logo on a 3 year old car.

Will keep you posted.

If they have lost the coat of paint then we will happily paint them black.
