FEEL IT IS MY DUTY TO POINT OUT THAT THE 2.0 TURBOI must be mega-pedant though and point out that the Tony Pond record was set in a 2.7 V6 (Honda engine) engined car, not the Rover T16 turbo.

I'll be honest, I do actually like '90s Rovers. Especially the 600 & 800. The 220 Turbo Coupe was quite a significant car in itself as it was one of the first properly affordable cars (on sale in Britain at least) that did 150mph. Ten years earlier you'd have needed a 930 or a Turbo Esprit to do this. The 220 GTi was one of the first hot hatches with 200bhp, and I also like the Cabriolet a lot, although I can't really justify that
So, not a complete joke then. And what was Ford giving us at this time? The Escort Mk IV, Scorpio and Orion, and the Sierra's last twitchings. Ooh, thrilling...
Slight correction -it was the 220Gsi Turbo that had 200bhpSo, not a complete joke then. And what was Ford giving us at this time? The Escort Mk IV, Scorpio and Orion, and the Sierra's last twitchings. Ooh, thrilling...
220GTI ran 140bhp
