It may be some way off (early next year) but I am looking to get another fcar.
Budget is £100k or less, and I've noticed 599's are slipping under this now. So what I want to know is;
A. Am I mad? B. what do I need to watch out for? C. What are the servicing schedules/costs? D. What else would you get for the money, fcar or not?

A. Depends what you're after. Think of the GTB as a car Aston should have built. A superb easy GT with immense usable performance on tap. Mine is in Silverstone and took her out last night. Still looks wonderful, draws much friendly attention and in a very busy, wet and slow West End, very relaxed. B. As always, a bullet- proof service history. And yellow calipers, hate them on the 599 C. Mine has been easy to maintain - annual servicing which isn't much more than a top flight Mercedes or Porsche. D. If A ticks your box, nothing comes close. Hope that helps a little.

The only thing the 599 has against it is size. It is very wide so for West End parking garages and width restrictions around town it is simply too wide. Avoid Hammersmith Bridge, Chiswick Flyower etc etc ...I think you catch the drift.

Would anyone run one out of warranty ?
It's been said over on Fchat that if you do get a wrongun, the bills will bring you to your knees.

Mine was new Mar 07 and I gave up paying Ferrari for warranty two years ago. It's properly serviced and so far hasn't missed a beat. Point B above. As for size, yep, it's no Mini. But no wider than a new Aston Virage.

Well this will be a weekend toy (and work if its sunny), and mainly used around Leeds/Manchester, so the width wont be a problem.
How long do ferrari offer the warranties for, is there a cut off date?

How long do ferrari offer the warranties for, is there a cut off date? Google "Ferrari Power". I think it'll help answer your question.

How long do ferrari offer the warranties for, is there a cut off date? Basically, jon, the older the car the more limited (albeit cheaper) the warranty cover on offer becomes. When my original factory warranty ran out I didn't bother and, like Camlet, ran a perfectly good and properly serviced and maintained car without issues until it got sold. However the buyer was keen the car was warranted so I bought one - the most basic one called a 'power train' - which cost about 2k including the required inspection. Chatting to a respected local indy specialist he suggested I might have done better price and cover wise with a non-ferrari warranty. Obviously by then it was too late, but it's certainly an option I'd explore if I was doing it again.

Nope 430. I lurrrve the sporty V8s, but the V12s (and stuff like murcis etc) are a bit big for me, though I still admire them in someone else's garage.

Looking like reasonable value at under £90k now. Not sure how easy it is to find one which hasn't been clocked, hired or both.

I had a GTB from new for three years. Besides a minor problem with brake lights, which was fixed under warranty, it was flawless. I used it daily and did over 20,000 miles. The biggest cost was rear tyres. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!

insurance_jon said: Same question from me too Tips, none really, I bought from a fanchised dealer (Carrs in Exeter) who were excellent, I use the car most days, certainly more than I used to it's predecessors. The engine is just awesome, so much power! Since it's one of the new generation of engines there are no cam belts to do so serviceing is realtively reasonable. Size wise everyone goes on about how big they are, but honestly living with it day to day I find it fine, it doesn't feel massive to me, and parking in the garage I'm not sure it's any wider than my Gallardo was. Only downside I can think of is it's not the most economical thing in the world!

I have just been throught he same conundrum and finally sucumbed to a 2007 cat with 10k miles for £89k. I picked it up on Friday. (Tintanium Grey with Bordeux). It looks like a newcar..... At first it felt quite big but it is starting to shrink around me.
My wife described it as the automotive equivalent to fine chocolate. I find it very involving in quite a different way to the V8's. It is more delicate to drive nad actually brings out smoother fast driving.
I'd recommend it so far.
