This is the one that I've got http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dl

The only down side is that the pads are lifted with spacers instead of being on screws.

Thanks Andy,
Made by same company as the one on my shortlist.
How long have you had it and are you happy with how it all works (pad spacers aside)
Do you use it every day, or just hobby ?
Can you get the pads under the car without having to pre-jack it up?

TIA

I use it quite a bit I've got 10 vans and 5 cars that I use it for, so not everyday, but you do gain about 101 friends that just want to use it for a minute.

The Monaro just fits without jacking it up

The build quality is pretty good it's been in about 2 years now, MYM8V8 has the same one.

ouch they want over 400 quid delivered for 2 of their maintenance ramps, about the same price my mate could do me a 2nd hand 2 post ramp if I'd a garage to put it in. Pity as they'd be ideal for working on the driveway. Think I'll be going back to my plan of doing something with a couple of railway sleepers until I persuade the missus to move to a house with a decent sized garage.

Evening all,

Thank you for replies, very helpful with a clear winner.

So, now just to decide which I need.

My floor as far as I know is a good industrial concreted area.
I will drill some test holes to make sure, think I need to speak to the
landlord aswell.
Height is no restriction, so clear floor lift looks good.
Power can be three or single phase, however if the difference is only lift speed
then I'd go with single phase as this leaves me a spare way on the dis board.

What other advantages for using 3 phase ?

Lift would not be used as part of my everyday business, could be sat unused for
weeks at a time. Will need to be able to leave it fully raised when not being used.
Vehicles I would need to lift......well.....only one in mind, vxr8, and if it does
this ok, then all the other cars in my family are smaller, oh, perhaps my traffic van.

Ebay has loads, looking at this one:-

4000 Kg Capacity
Low Maintenance Due To Hydraulic Design
Twin Hydraulic Rams With Safety Devices
Safety Device In Both Posts
Includes 3 sets of Lift Pad Extensions for Vans / 4x4 (50mm,75mm,150mm)
Fully C.E. Approved
Low Voltage Control System (As Required)

Minimum Height 98 mm
Overall Height 3750mm
Lifting Capacity 4000kg
Maximum Lifting Height 1900mm
Overall Width 3420 mm

Also like the look of this one

Supersymmetric arms increase overall arm sweep and minimum arm reach to precisely lift vehicles.
Dual hydraulic direct-drive cylinders - conforming to ANSI standards.
With Self-Lubricating UHMW Polyethylene sliders and bronze bush.
Clear -floor design provides unobstructed floor use..
Single-point safety release.
Overhead safety shut-off device prevents vehicle damage.
Adjustable height accommodates varying ceiling heights.
Door Guards. Toe Guards.
Adjustable screw rubber pads.
Includes set of Truck Adapters.
Capacity 4T
· Lifting Time 55Seconds
· Raise Height I: 1690-1800mm
· Raise Height II: 1890-2000mm
· Overall Height: 3621/3821mm
· Overall Width: 3428mm
· Width Between Posts: 2850mm
Width Extention Kit Available extra - see my ebay listing
· Minimum Pad Height: 125mm unfortunately 27mm more than the other lift
· Motor: 2.0/3.0 HP
· Gross Weight: 670Kg
· This lift is supplied with a Single (1) Phase Motor
(Also available with a Three (3) Phase motor see my eBay listings)
· Powder Coated Finish
· CE Approved

Bit more money, but lifts to 2000mm, which would be could good as I’m over 6ft 2”

Gareth, what spec is your lift ?

Chris, your GEM lift, was that available in clear floor design ?

Merge, perhaps you could comment without breaking forum rules, otherwise look me up
www.lotuscarlton.co.uk and email me there so I have your contact details please.

TIA
Mine is the Automotech. Chinese made, and for a work lift maybe not, but for the use I give it, ideal and it has been fine.

Thanks for all the advise guys.
Took a little (a lot actually !)while longer, but I had a lot to sort out this year.
Finally got the 2 post installed last week.
I got the Peak 209C with the extra width extension kit.
With the pad extenders I can have the the car up high enough 6ft 4 1/2"
and safety locked so that I can walk under without bashing may head in smile
Added bonus is that the van goes up to full height just before hitting the
safety rail.

Now, what should I break first...... smile

Do you guys rent units for this or is it all the your own businesses that you have made space in?

Seriously, my like-minded neighbour and I used to rent a 6-car hobby unit locally. It cost us £2k per year between us, and was a fantastic luxury. I had to down-scale when he emigrated, but still have a smaller lock-up, for the overflow that I can't fit in my garage at home. I've just started fitting out a new 12 x 8 shed at home, so with luck I'll have everything at home by the middle of next year. smile

Anyway, home garages are for bikes not cars. smile

If you can't put it through your company, get it as a hobby unit. You usually get it for a cheaper rate, and don't pay business rates. smile

Where do you look to find this sort of thing? Just google and cross your fingers or are there specialist websites / places to look? scratchchin

I'm in Aylesbury if that makes any difference, would love a unit to work in.

Find out who owns small industrial units near you - and also see if your local council has an enterprise zone that they sponsor with small units. Our 6 car unit was an old mushroom shed (brick build with solid roof). The farmer had given up growing mushrooms, as the supermarkets were buying them cheaper from abroad than he could produce them for.

Failing that, ask a few farmers if they have a spare secure building that you could rent. Naturally it would be wrong to suggest you pay cash, as that could encourage them not to declare it to the tax man. wink

It's a rented unit for my business, the lift is pure self indulgence, as is the car I just wanted one. Everything in there is either palletised or on wheels so its quite flexible in terms of space. I've got a garage at home but its full up of ......stuff smile
