Hello E61 Bearders!

Our 325i T has a few issues that I'd like sorting, just wanted some thoughts and help based on your collective experiences.

1. The windscreen washers are weak, only producing a small squirt of water. Reservoir is full and pump can be heard running. Rear and headlight washes work just fine (in fact, its the headlight that cleans the windscreen now...). Is this most likely to be the filter at the pump, inside the wheelarch?

2. The rear passenger interior handle is "melting", usual crappy soft touch plastics rotting away. What is the best fix for this?

3. The boot latch striker thing (see pic) has lost its spring, so now is folded down all the time, as per pic. As a result the boot slams now. Best fix? I see the silly little patr will be £50+ from BMW. What is fitting like, easy?

Thanks in advance!

My friend is selling his 2007 E91 330i in case anyone is interested.

It’s on 120k and in his ownership he’s fitted Bilstein B4S dampers with Eibach Pro springs, an Andream screen for CarPlay / Android Auto, changed the water pump and thermostat plus. The engine and gearbox have been mapped by P Torque in Wolverhampton.

That part is just a vanity trim, it won't cause the boot to slam.

It also seems to go missing from all E91's. It was missing on my old car so I messaged a load of breakers to get hold of one and it was missing on all those too. I noticed a lot of cars for sale had it missing as well. Seem expensive from BMW too.

I'm not 100% sure, but it certainly did seem to slam more to me. Will test some more next time I'm with the car late Feb. Then again, I always found the E91 boot closing a horrid thing with its crash bang wallop sounds...

Part is ~£75 from BMW, which is plain crazy considering its a flimsy bit of plastic. You can get brake discs for less!

Our lasted 16 years, so at least that...

Yeah I replaced mine years ago and it's still fine. Pricey, but costs for parts can often seem weird - Sam (Court_S) found that the big plastic scuttle trim is absurdly cheap for example. Plus, when it doesn't look quite so crappy anymore with a bust part you'll feel better about the cost biggrin

If it's slamming then it might be the struts that need doing. It's a very heavy tailgate and to be honest I'm not convinced the struts are up to the job. I replaced mine within the last 2 years and they've already lost their "zip" on opening.

Yes good point, in fact struts are also on the list of minor jobs. We're still on the factory items, so again, have done well. Given the cost of the little plastic thing I will replace those first and see where we go from there.

Thankfully they're easy to replace being "external". The E39 has them inside the roof and its a massive job!

N52, M Sport, silver with black leather. It’s pretty well spec’d for a petrol touring with xenon’s, heated seats and nav.

Yeah, they’re easily broken and bloody expensive for what they. Same as the handle in the boot floor.

Actually that was online genuine new stock, not main dealer but as it was a price shared between at least 3 vendors I assumed its the main dealer price too (normally I found that to be the case). Anyways, car is in EU so will see what its actually at in a few days. Will let you know!

Riccardo, on the crap washers, the washer bottle is probably gunked up. The bottle needs removing snd the strainer that feeds the washers cleaning. That should sort it.

Somehow, even after 207,000 miles my boot striker trim and interior bits are all fine. I’ve probably just jinxed it now. hehe

It’s just been listed on eBay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225994886698?mkcid=16&a...

If I hadn’t bought the E91 I did last year, I’d have bought this because it’s got proper headlights! laugh

That looks very tidy and spec is decent - I'd say my must-have options are xenons (so that you can see where you're going), nav (so you can easily add CarPlay, which this car already has) and heated seats (to compensate for the fact that leather is a really poor choice of material for car seats!). This car has those three, so I'd be pretty happy with that spec.

The price is at the higher end for a pre-LCI auto, but you have to consider that alongside the relatively low mileage and the work that's been done (particularly the water pump).

The parts catalogue lists a 16" steel wheel for winter tyres so I'd say yes.

Thanks Jake, that will be our first port of call I think.

Yes, we have the factory 16 alloy wheels on ours. (205/55R16 91H , 7Jx16 ET31)
