He can stay at Ducati, pocket an enormous pay deal and walk away at the end with the blame for failure heaped on Ducati, or he can go to Yamaha and get whupped by Lorenzo on a very similar bike and the failure will be all his.
Or he can stay at Ducati and continue to crash every week and eventually break something that really ends his career.hostyle said:
I hope he stays at Duc and that Duc stuffs its pride and changes the engine configuration to something that adds more weight to the front.
This is what I was hoping to see but they don't seem to be making the plunge. People are banging on about chassis, swingarms etc etc but he's still not had the main problem solved that he has asked for which is the engine config.
Also all this 'Hayden is performing on the desmo and Rossi isn't'
bks. Hayden is probably trying harder to make the thing work but he and the bike as a unit are no means performing.

At least then we will see if he can still ride. Spies / Dovi / Cal can all get very very near the pointy end on a Yamaha so assuming Valentino actually moves to Yamaha I would expect him to be mixing it up with Dani / Dovi and now and then he will get it together and be able to run with Jorge. If he fails to run at the pointy end then the hoardes of nay sayers are right. Somehow I doubt that he has magically forgotten how to ride, let alone how to win.

Which is why he probably isn't pushing as hard as Hayden. He's in limbo at the moment, if they don't get the bike working he HAS TO move.
Yeah, exactly. You've got a nail to hammer in to a block of wood, but no hammer. Do you use your hand, or wait for someone to give you a hammer?.#labouredmetaphor.

Maybe *fingers crossed*, slightly maybe, Audi puts its foot down. Audi races to win, just take a look at their efforts in ALMS and Le Mans.People are banging on about chassis, swingarms etc etc but he's still not had the main problem solved that he has asked for which is the engine config.
Must be going. Although I suspect Audi will throw enought money at the bike to sort it out, it will take a couple of seasons, and that is time Rossi simply doesn't have.
As other have mentioned, the pay packet on offer is irrelevant. His money is generated through sponsorship, commercial tat, etc. If he moves to Yamaha it shows he is confident in his own abilities.
Whatever choice he makes, wherever to ends up, I don't believe he has a world championship left in him. Maybe Yamaha would get him some podiums though next season, and then will no doubt be looking to bow out whilst once again in the top ranks of current MotoGP, whereas at moment he is pottering around in nowhere land.

All this shows me is that Stoner really is incredibly talented, the only fella to make the Ducati dance post 990 days . . . What a talent, and it's a shame we spend more time dicsussing Rossi will he or won't he than the sad fact that someone of Stoners incredible talent is leaving our sport.
Forget the personalities for a second and just consider what a huge loss to our sport that riding ability is.

While I agree he is a great talent, his future is decided. End of. Nothing to see here. I'm gone! While he is popping kids out left right and centre, putting the cat out and tending to his borders, Rossi, Pedrosa, Lorenzo and co will all still be giving us something to talk about.
We had quite a long thread about Stoners retirement. It's been discussed and while sad for the sport, there is something to discuss that is yet undecided.
Stoners presence will still be discussed until the end of the season, from then on it will all be past tense.
And let it not be forgotten that for all the "greatness bestowed upon C Stoner Esq" he has still not achieved as many championships nor over anything like as long a career as the previous greats, Agostini, Lawson, Spencer, Bayliss, Doohan, Rossi, Fogarty, even Capirossi to name but 8.
Hope this doesn't spark the usual debate.

Stoner that's behind his team mate in the points (a team mate that's often referred to as overrated)? Yeah he's talented, but his style obviously just suited the Ducati, of which other riders' hasn't. The guy's good, but i think in the passage of time his name will get lost.Forget the personalities for a second and just consider what a huge loss to our sport that riding ability is.

Let's see . . In the modern era there's . . hold on, err, it's um, well there's Lawson, Rossi and Stoner.
Bound to be forgotten
