So Rossi is an expert on engine configuration now too is he?
At the risk of repeating myself: Honda use a 60 degree V4, Yamaha use a 60 degree V4. Only bikes with this engine configuration have won titles since Stoner's in 2007. Rossi might not be, Honda and Yamaha appear to be.

No they didn't. They haven't had a front running bike since 2007.

Anyway, Stoner is amazing, Rossi is amazing. Stoner could ride the Ducati of 2007, Rossi can't ride the Ducati of 2011/2012. I don't see why people have to try to compare them based solely on whether or not they can ride bikes built by a manufacturer five seasons and two major regulation changes apart. It's like comparing drivers of a Williams from the mid-nineties, to a driver of a Williams in the 2000s. Or, moronic.

That's funny. Rossi never fought for 5-6 place - So you admit Stoner is good then? smile

Nope, still don't get it. So he hangs off a bike more than others. Doohan used to get his arse cheeks on the floor.

Meanwhile, back in the 80's..... on a forum....

"God I wish Doohan would retire, its getting soooo boring watching him disappear...."

"Why cant Criville catch him, its the same bike"

"Bloody Schwantz - gifted that title, never won it"

ETC ETC

This is why we all watch racing.... the characters make the sport.

some records are never ever going to be beaten, not nowadays.

how likely is to for someone to beat

loebs record in rallying?
schumacher in f1?
rossi in motogp?
hutchys 5 tt win?
phelps olympic golds?

outside hutchy and phelps, ALOT is dependant of having the best machinery at the time.

would it be fair to say Stoner is a far more "adaptable" racer than Rossi? therefore possibly a better all round rider? Rossi and Stoner have had some of the best battles of the last few years, there battle at Laguna Seca was brilliant.

Because the people who are in charge of fixing it don't want to admit there is anything wrong.
Yet they will change everything else.

They dropped the trellis and Carbon airbox/frame like a hot potato, so if they knew (if not publically) it was the engine, why wouldn't they change it?

"Yamaha use a 60 degree V4" - Neggers.

"No they didn't. They haven't had a front running bike since 2007" - So Casey was nowhere near the front after 07?

"characters make the racing" - Are you new to this? If you think Stoner is not media friendly enough you'd have loved Doohan with his game face on! Sheene may have been a character but way before my time. I couldn't give a stuff about the backstory, I want to see the best riders fighting on track.

Rossi has won championships on 125, 250 and 500 two stroke, 990 four stroke Honda and Yamaha and 800 four stroke Yamaha, whereas Stoner has won on 800 Ducati and 800 Honda, so no it wouldn't be fair to say that

What does this sound to you?

In response to Jorge Lorenzo's comments that he deserved a competitive bike, Rossi added: "Jorge is among the few who have always shown respect towards me and I thank him for that. He is right: I, too, think I deserve a competitive bike."

As apposed to Jorges previous comment that if Rossi goes back to yamaha the garage wall goes back up?

The trellis disappeared in 2010, whilst Rossi was merely a twinkle in Ducati's eye, and as I recall, Casey was critical of the carbon/stressed airbox. Something along the lines of not understanding why they'd introduced it when the old chassis didn't need addressing, it was the front end that was the problem (sounds familiar eh?).

Apriliaer said:

An inline 4 still isn't a 90 degree V4 either though.

Yes he was, but as mentioned earlier, his wins decreased year on year from then onwards - if that trend had have continued maybe he'd be looking at a winless year round about now? Who knows. One man doesn't make a front running bike though either!! Stoner aside, the bike has major flaws, surely you can't be so blinkered as to ignore that? Everyone barring Casey Stoner has struggled on it, and if that means he is so much better than everyone else, then why did he bin his Honda (a superior machine to the Desmosedici) trying to keep up with his team mate not so long ago?? The Ducati is a pig and regardless of who's on it, it needs sorting.

Are you new to this? Doohan with his game face was completely different in my book. Doohan managed to get away with it. A dominant, take-no-st character, an almost movie baddie type of persona that could pull off speaking his mind and telling it like it is. When Stoner does it, in my opinion he just takes on the appearance of a moaning 12 year old that I want to slap. Like after qualifying on Saturday, he spent the whole in lap and entry in to Parc Ferme shaking his head from side to side trying to prove some sort of point and making sure everyone around knew just how unhappy he was. Then proceeds to come across in the press conference that he's either victimised by traffic, or that others are merely in his way....but he qualifies in the exact same conditions as everyone else, how many other complaints do you hear on a consistent basis of being held up or impeded? Jeez just get over it, shut your mouth and get on with it. If he just rode his bike and got on with things it'd be much better.

Stoners awesome, Rossi's awesome.

Both are simply fantastic at motorcycle racing, Rossi has pretty much beat all his opponents now hes moving on, Stoner and Lorenzo pick up the mantel and are beating everyone the old guard has to move on at some point.

Wasn't Stoner the most successful rider of the 800cc era
Yes in race wins and podiums. Championships, it is shared at 2 with Rossi.

Both had periods of absence, with illness or injury.

They wont change the engine configuration as it's part a of Ducati that links to their road bikes. Until then it'll never be with the Yam and Honda. Maybe Audi will change it but when you look at them using Le Mans to plug their road cars you probably realise they wont.
