Be default they don't replace the hydraulic damper ( Doesn't come as part of the kit), worth the extra 40quid or so to get that changed to. Cost me about 160quid for the parts from G&S to do the job DIY.
Worth checking your local Skoda dealer - same parts used cheaper labour!
Only the 1.8T's have the hydraulic damper. Your right it isn't replaced, because there is no need, failure is pretty rare, seen it on a few TT's over 120k miles. Causes belt to rattle on cover, noise alerts customer before any damage occurs.Worth checking your local Skoda dealer - same parts used cheaper labour!

Just had an 02 52 reg A3 1.6 done
Water pump & Cam Belt normal price was £350, not that I paid that
Water pump was leaking so as car had done 57k and coming uo to 7yrs sensible to have the belt done at the sametime.
also noted minor 'roof rail' corrosion which they submitted a warranty claim for which was soon approved with no fuss (understand this is a common issue) goes in tomorrow

my friend did it today - ground jack raise while I watched. '98 R-reg. Very different to my old A4 which seemed much stiffer, like metal. Seen video of all front removed, radiator, loads of cogs off and back on. This A3 with belt to side instead. Watching from above, plastic covers not removed. Think there are two main big cogs above, alternator and something below. Belt was described loose. Seemed crowfeet cracks all over inner and edge - elastic band nature. Threaded from below and my fingers round top. Easy tensioner adjustment. Engine flush, new oil, new plugs, no labour charge. £310 kit. I could do next time

My A3 was done at Chandlers Ford Audi, scraping noise on left hand bends afterwards took multiple separate visit attempts to fix - they changed a drive shaft and a drop link, both wrong diagnosis. Turns out they had not properly tightened the engine mount so the engine moved on left hand bends. Credited my drive shaft and drop link bills against the next service.
Used local independent after that.
