Maplin will be stocking Pi packages soon.
At a mere 70 quid, including approximately 10 quids worth of accessories.

CPC (Farnell's consumer arm) have them in stock with free P&P at £30

how so?

I use to use it and its all automatic... makes sure the magnet/torrent knows its supposed to use transmission, set up the number of peers/transfer speed in the menu system and then away you go.

What cant you see in the setup and what happens when you try and download something?

Im assuming that you are not using it to download say a pdf as the browser itself will download that, transmission is for files.

I think I may be complicating by connecting remotely to an Xsession, the gui app fails to start.

"Client could not successfully authenticate itself. Connection request refused by the X server.(transmission-gtk:2641): Gtk-WARNING cannot open display: localhost:11.0"

And trying to get the command line to work is a pain in the oysters. I'll stick at it...

I haven't read the precursors to this, but before whatever command you're running try:

export DISPLAY=":0.0"

cheers 0000, export DISPLAY=":0.0" would be great, if I had a screen connected to it, but as I'n connecting over SSH, it's using Display 10.0.

I got around it eventually, running it as user "pi", rather than my regular username.

If you want to stream video etc. to your TV then I can highly recommend Raspbmc.

For internet browsing... Raspbian is probably your best bet, although I don't think the little ARM processor is up for rendering full screen websites...

Raspbian for the moment, I might stick raspmc on another card though. I'm usign OMXplayer at the moment, but it's not great at handling some of the HD stuff.

So apart from video streaming, has anyone found another use for it?

Glad it's not just me getting crashes frown

Had to restart it several times while playing with it yesterday - always when browsing the internet (trying to load pages with example Python to copy and paste).

I did install Chromium, which is 1). MUCH better than the default browser and 2) seemed to do a better job loading some web pages. Still crashed out the OS a couple of times though

I think people are trying to get it to do more than what it can actually do.
It's like going back to 1995.

My XBMC needs rebooting every week or so as it locks up sometimes. but as an occasional media player its pretty good value.

Dear customer,
Thanks again for your Raspberry Pi order, reference number **********. We are busy working with the suppliers who provide components for your Raspberry Pi to ensure you receive your order as quickly as possible.
Since receiving your order, we have been advised that our next batch of approximately 40,000 Raspberry Pi’s will now be arriving during September, with further deliveries expected in October. This delay is due to the very high level of demand on the core Raspberry Pi processor chip. Unfortunately, this means that your order could be delayed by up to 4 weeks, although we are trying to reduce this as much as possible. We have updated the delivery schedule displayed in our FAQ’s and on the Raspberry Pi forum. As soon as we receive confirmation of any improvements from our manufacturers, we will advise you.
Please accept our apologies for this delay and be assured we are doing everything we can to ensure the fastest possible delivery of your Raspberry Pi.
Brilliant. So how come Farnell have them you utter bds?
