Hi guys

On Saturday 16/08 I was driving south down the M40 J14 when behind me some knobber in a VW Polo comes booting down with his blues and two's on. I was doing about 90pmh so naturally I pulled into the middle lane to let him through. Anyway when he passed with his weedy looking passenger (can't have been older than 18) I realised it was purely a gimmick (blue flashing light within the car and alternating headlights wired into the front) so I gave flashed him to let him know wat an idiot he was and how dangerous his actions were (car's ahead were swinging out of the way as you would do).

Any how by J11 (Banbury) I had had enough and phoned the coppers and told them he was heading towards J10 (Northampton) and gave reg details but low and behold was told we would get someone down there but no one was there and yet another immature idiot got away with being a danger on our roads!! This guy must've been doing 110mph+.

Regards

Kully

You can call in person at a police station and report. It might, at least, cause him to get a visit, and a car check.

90mph = FPN 3 points and £60

So you gave chase = racing = charge of dangerous driving.

Surely, in this day and age of perma-surveillance, even if its a dodgy plate they could pick it up on CCTV if they found the time...?!

Fingers crossed eh smile

Only on PH SP+L does this majestic thing happen - a thread gets started asking a perfectly decent question, and every sod jumps on the OP himself!

Guys, give it a rest please.

Back to the original question - if you got the Reg, then I'd be very surprised if the local Constabulary weren't extremely interested in this. They tend to take a very very dim view of people pretending to be any sort of Blue Light.

A mate of mine had an ex Police white Rover 827 some years ago, when Police round here used to use plain white ones as unmarked. He used to leave his hi-vis jacket and a chauffeurs hat on the parcel shelf - completely legal, but nobody would overtake him, ever. Hugely amusing - which is why he did it. He used to get pulled and lectured on it fairly frequently though as it could be construed as impersonating.

I'm not jumping on the poster at all. I'm not ridiculing his question, just pointing out that its not a good idea to say you were doing 90mph to the Police and you started chasing a faster moving car just because he had fake blue lights on.

Isn't impersonating a police officer a mandatory jail term?

would their defence be that they were impersonating an ambulance?

Clearly impersonating a police car is not on, but I'm not sure about just displaying blue lights.

On one of the police camera action shows someone was stopped for displaying red lights to the front. The officer staed that this was a big no-no but also said that it was not an offence to display blue lights to the front.

The blue washer jets should be an offence on the grounds of taste if nothing else.

I know of an instance round here where some local knobs in their Renault 19 had blues and a siren - they certainly got a visit though not sure of the outcome. They were pretty well known to the police as it happens.

I think I've seen this pr1ck too. I was going anti-clockwise on the M25 about six months ago, between Godstone and Sevenoaks one night. Saw the blue lights and moved into the middle lane to let what I thought was the police through and a black polo (with no blue lights on the back) past. Certainly didn't strike me as an unmarked car once he was past me.

I saw on a cops programme that some of the cars they seize for having no insurance are subsequently used as unmarked cars for a while.
