Mike Hawthorn Memorial Service 2009
Discussion
Hi All, I `m arranging a memorial service next year for Mike Hawthorn . I can`t believe it`s 50 years this year since he won the Championship and still nothing. Next year will be 50 years since he died, so there will be a memorial; service at St andrews Farnham on the 25th of january. the JDHT and Ferrari will be out in force, there will be a parade of the cars and companies he was involved with.
The Police will close the roads off. Then off to the cemetry to lay wreaths.
Its about time this nation did something to honour this man,so step out and do it all you pistonheads.
Please post your support and let me know if you are going.

Was reading one of the red top dailies today in the barbers, and in their report on the Chinese GP they journo ended his bit by mentioning that if Hamiliton won the WDC tomorrow, he would be the youngest WDC and it would be appropiate as tomorrow would be the exact 50th anniversay of Mike Hawthorn being crowed our 1st WDC.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a daily journo mention Mike.

Agreed ,also makes a change when they know what they are talking about .I was pleasantly surprised to see a daily journo mention Mike.
It would be good to get there - Although he died almost 20 years before I was even born, Mike Hawthorn has been a huge influence on my life - please keep us posted with arrangements.
Incidentally, I believe that the BBC's One Show is planning a feature on Hawthorn for next Monday (3rd November) presumably on the basis of the 50th anniversary and Lewis Hamilton winning the World Championship (fingers crossed)

Hi All, pleased to say that Marenello are now on board , Ferrari owners club and Ferrari GB. However, it seems I have got to get public liabilty Insurance for the memorial service and parade?. Farnham town council took nearly 10 years to approve a cricket paviliion in Mikes` memory so nothing new here. Any ideas where I go to get the best deal for such and event?

My grandfather (a drinking partner of Hawthorn's) and I will come along
I'm sure Tindle Newspapers (Farnham herald) will carry some coverage to help drum up interest. Mike was their first ever 'news' front page if I remember reading their article correctly?
The head of Tindle is a motoring enthusiast who regularly participates and sponsors the London to Brighton run.

Hi All just to keep you posted of events. Nigel has very kindly offered to suppoort the event with his cars, but we are now faced with the Councils` involvement. Its a bit like swimming in treacle, though thankfully I have some help on the ground. You can`t do this, or that. So in true Hawthorn style.....Stuff it, we are going to do it anyway!
