Not helpin this case, but I had a scooter stolen last year. Carole Nash paid me enough for a brand new one with virtually no questions. They wanted basic details, a crime number, and then sent a cheque.
We slag the companies off (rightly) when they are bad, so I thought I should mention the other side.

cheers for the info Si It's all service and flexibility of product related for me. For example my trackbike isn't road legal (race bike NOT cat B) so I had it added to my house insurance to cover theft and fire that way. It ain't cheap but I don't do cheap just good.

Resurrection....
Story so far:
1) About 3 weeks ago I was interviewed by an insurance person and made an official statement 2) About 2 weeks ago I sent off all the V5/keys/service history etc of the bike they asked for 3) Last week, my gf was also interviewed for a statement
Just phoned the insurance people and been told that they're trying to find out progress and have been told that they're just waiting to find out how much it will cost to get a police report (should happen in the next day or so) followed by them saying that it takes 6-8 weeks to get the report....at which point presumably I may possibly get some money back.
Is it just me or is this already turning into a farce?
Loon: I didn't send your letter template you emailed me a couple of weeks ago as it all seemed to be moving quite quickly all of a sudden. But am I right in assuming that this is now def unacceptable in terms of not following the FSA principles and I should send it immediately? Or is my case different for some reason?

My ex has all the office computer stuff insured with Hiscox. The other day she left her MacBook Pro on the hob, like you do, but this time she turned the burners on with realising that the lappy was there and fried it She told Hiscox exactly what she had done and they said not a problem, cheque is in the post.

I'll keep my eye out. Also keep checking eBay for sale of spares etc. the dirty little b ds have a habit of stripping and selling for parts. I had a CBR 600rr stolen a few years ago. I only had it ten days. The police were uninterested. They never even came to my house!! Oh and be wary of the insurance companies, mine sent round an investigater, they interviewed my mum my dad both my brothers. All just to avoid paying out. They did pay out though. Although I lost £500 through the excess, so at the end of the day it's always the b d criminals that win. Would still love to get hold of them and break their jaws!!! Anyway I hope you find your bike and get to go 12 rounds with the scummy little f kers that stole it!! If you want me to smash them in for you just pm me!!! :-)

Just send the letter and ring the up and kick off. They can't delay meeting their obligations for no good reason. Hate to say this, but this sounds like they've got some fraud indicators ringing on this claim.

<bump> Little update. Well, it's taken a while and will likely take a bit longer, but there is some good news. Firstly, I got a call from the insurance people this morning who offered £6800 for the bike which I thought was very reasonable given that I paid £7200ish for it and had done 1500 miles or so. I put the phone down feeling pretty good. 5 mins later the same chap calls me back and says he's actually pretty sure that eBike do a New for New scheme since the bike was not very old and I'd bought it new i.e. whatever appeared on the invoice for the original bike, they'll pay for a new bike with the same spec. I'm still waiting for confirmation but if so that would be great I would probably add Arrow exhausts, a quickshifter, rear hugger and gel seat to it out of my own money if I can. Then, I was thinking that I now really should sell my BMW F800S....until I did an insurance quote and say that it was only £80 more per year to have both bikes!!! And I do really like the BMW! Decisions decisions. Anyway, it all seems a little too good to be true somehow! Although I did help a lady pick up her Ducati Monster on Wandsworth roundabout this morning, so maybe it's good karma from that

I'd be amazed if they do a new for old on bikes. It's commonplace on car policies for the first RK in the first 12 months, but never seen it on a bike policy.

Yeah, surprised me too! but even if that doesn't pan out and he's made a mistake, I'd still be very happy with the money they offered. Happy Friday everyone, I'm in a good mood!

Glad to hear it. It shouldn't have taken this long, but getting two bikes in the garage would be a nice silver lining to this cloud.

Further update.... New bike being ordered by insurance company as we speak, will look like this Spec: Street Triple R in Crystal White Arrow slip ons plus associated remap Belly pan Radiator cowl Rear hugger Fly screen Quickshifter Gel seat (lesson learnt from my Germany trip earlier this year!) Grab rail Alarm (for all the good it did last time ) Compared to my previous spec, I've binned the visor kit as the wind deflection offered was marginal and added the arrow slip ons, quickshifter, gel seat and hugger. I figured if I'm going to get the new bike, I might as well go to town Total cost of the bike comes out at £9,519 of which I'm picking up about £1300 worth of the tab due to my extras, insurance excess and first registration/tax etc. I am *very* excited. Only downside is that I'll likely be selling the BMW which I'm actually really enjoying (and my gf finds more comfortable to pillion on). Although it's a great bike, I can't really justify having the thick end of £5k tied up in a second machine when I really should spend it on sensible stuff like house renovations If anyone is interested in it, drop me a PM, details of it are on my garage page.

Excellent mate really glad you got it sorted. Now get over to http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ and get a series 3 and a decent lock. I bought an Abloy 362 for £29 new from ebay! They're normally around £180 Yes they're heavy but the thieves will just look for another bike. I wear my chain like Rambo
