Any body got a spare set of Tamora boot hinges I can borrow/swap for mine? I want to send mine away to get them Chromed when I get my car back, the bonnet hinges are cheap so I will just buy a set of those but the boot hinges are about £60/side! I want to keep using the car whilst they are away for chroming so need to borrow a set if possible.

TIA

Hi Shep,

Sorry I haven't got a spare set, but am interested in where you might be getting yours chromed?

Mine are looking very tired, and looking very sorry for themselves!!

Cheers

Don't have my car either, it's not back from paint as I decide red to have a full re-trim at the same time. Alan how are the boot hinges fixed to the body?

OK guys,

Here's some pics of the hinges. They look as if they are bolted in.

I've just remembered a chrome plating company based just outside of Bristol that I have seen completed work from. I've emailed them, and will see what the quote comes back as.

If i remember correctly the boot hinges on the tam were..................Street KA
mk6 Escort cab which may be the same thing. Got a set on the way from the breakers that I can return if they are wrong. £35 instead of £130 for new ones from a TVR parts supplier!

Can anyone help with a source for the boot hinge strut?

Mine is not in a good way, so a replacement needs to be found.

Right. Moving this along I will be sending a set of bonnet & boot hinges and associated parts off to get them chromed by a company called ashford chroming. cost will be about£300 all in. In case any body else decides to get this done, this is what you will need for a Tamora:-

B1138 - LH bonnet hinge
B1139 - RH bonnet hinge
B1144 - LH hinge bracket
B1145 - RH hinge bracket
U2449 - bonnet striker assembly
U2444 - bonnet stay rod
U0714 - ball joint (bonnet rod lower)
U2453 - ball joint (bonnet rod upper)

U1490 - boot hinge mount LH
U1491 - boot hinge mount RH
U2692 - RH boot hinge
U2693 - LH boot hinge
U2440 - boot striker assembly
???? - Gas strut holder

I decided to buy all new stuff (apart from the boot hinges) due to the estimated 4 week turn round and I want to use the car. The boot hinges came from a scrapper for £45 for the pair (New TVR ones are about £150) they are off a mk six escort cabriolet). You will also need new stainless steel flanged bolts, penny washers and nylon nuts (M6&M8) to complete the job.

When mine is done, I will post some pics, I will also have a spare set of all the above parts that I have removed from the car that I will sell on if anybody want to do the same.

Finished finally. £280 to get all the parts chromed. £10 for the various stainless bolts/nylocs & washers + £100 for a new set of brackets/hinges/strikers apart from the boot hinges which were secondhand so I could use the car whilst the parts were away.

Boot hinges pictured, also did the bonnet hinges, stay rod & strikers. Took me about an hour to swap everything over. You will need a second pair of hands as you can't do it safely on your own. There is a bush that you need to re-use pressed into each bonnet hinge, go easy when pressing it out they are brittle and can split.
