I recently took my E46 M3 on a track day and the brakes got very hot and bothered after only a couple of gentle laps. Is anyone aware of a brake upgrade for these cars yet?

AP Racing now do a kit for the E43 M3, give them a call. It does cost about £2k though!

There is a member called getcarter on here who was looking at, but I don't know if he went ahead or not in the end.

Thnaks Tony - looks like he did go ahead. There is a write up on www.bm3w.com apparently.

stick some Pagid RS19's on it and it runs fine (except for a bit of squeal)

the web site is actually www.bm3w.co.uk but it is currently off line as respect to the Sept 11 tradegy. It was suppoed to be up by now but isn't, when it is back up you will find the write up in the E46 M3 forum.

Cheers

On the track the brakes got so hot that the disks blued slightly. Does this happen with the Pagids?

well I cracked my discs and had them replaced at 11,000 miles which may or may not be a coincidence........

On track you at least get the sense with the Pagids that you will be able to do more than 2 laps though

Ouch! I would guess that M3 gearboxes aren't cheap. Is the warranty problem due to trackday use? BM3W.co.uk is still down so I haven't been able to get the full story yet.

Mike... yep BMW have written to me to tell me that because I have taken my car on a non competitive, non-timed, driver improvement track day, my warranty is invalidated.

I can't say too much here (legal bulls*it) - but when it is resolved one way or the other, I'll post a full report.

If you just *happen* to need new pads (once a week) ... just tell the garage you are a very fast road driver

Whilst I (of course) would never consider taking my car on such a day I would be very interested to hear what happens. Just for my own education you understand...

It's outrageous that they would even try that approach. Do they recommend that you discover the limits of an M3's performance on the open road??

Good luck,

Mike

Ouch!

I guess those 'mass-produced' M3s and M5s aren't as tough as the hand-built ones then - I think I'll keep my E34 thanks (or maybe get an E28)

M5 - good move

Mike - and what about Skid Pans? Guess they'll invallidate the warranty for learning how not to mame pedestrians too (ok... bit over the top... but REALLY! )
