Couldn't help notice masses of Brits piling throught the Auto Toll Tag lanes on the peage (while we queued for ages) but couldn't see any transponders in any windscreens,

Peage website says you need an account and transponder one to use those lanes?

I've seen people just hold it up to the windscreen, I guess as they have borrowed a tag?

Interestingly, I always see more car going through the non-tag lanes/paying cash than using the tags, even French cars.

https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/ absolute no-brainer and sometimes works in car parks.

Very good service in UK. They last about 5-6 years and cost £20 a year or something to renew.

I've had an Emovis (was Sanef) tag since I think they first became available in the UK, probably back in the start of this century. I would not drive in France without it. So convenient, no need for cash or card, no need to get out of a right hand drive car, no queuing, just no faff.

second this - https://www.emovis-tag.co.uk/ absolute no brainer. I've been using these for about 8 years. they have a UK base for sending out new / replacement transponders and they arrive in a couple of days. the transponder is tiny, maybe 2" wide and simply sticks in the windscreen using a clip and can go from car to car. mine like most is fitted high up next to the rear view mirror so not noticeable. toll charges are then DD straight to your account monthly and only when used. there is a 6.99 or something annual charge so worth keeping the account live even for infrequent or annual trips. recommended.

I have had my own tag for donkeys years but have to hold it out of the window in my current car as it has one of those fancy windscreens the signal doesn't get through.

I had an Sanef tag in the last car - but got one of these for my recent trip around Europe (covered Spain/Italy and France)

Bip'nGo

The Bip'nGo tag is far smaller than the previous Sanef/Emovis tag as well.

They don't cost anything to renew. You just return the dead one for an exchange.

That's weird - I thought Bip'nGo stopped issuing tags to the British some years ago and the Brits have to use the Emovis British-based operation (which, at the time, was more expensive than Bip'nGo). But, looking on the Bip'nGo website I see they ship to the UK. So am I right in thinking there's a choice of two operators if you live in the UK? Presumably they're the same subscription cost?

I have one in my motorhome, Ive had it for years. I didn’t queue at any of the tolls. I beat several cars to Calais who passed me just before Rouen.

They are about £20 to buy, when the battery needs changing send it back and a new one arrives in a few days FOC. There is no annual fee you get billed around £6.00 for every month you use it. If you don’t use you pay nothing. I receive an invoice at the beginning of the month for the previous month which is taken by DD.
Sanef uk are very user friendly and provide a great service.
Definitely makes using tolls easier especially if your travelling alone.

Not 100%, but I thought I had an annual charge to keep it active? Not dying in a ditch over it. They just swapped over an old expired one by return. Very good service indeed.

Thanks for all the answers.

I use a Tag for the M6 Toll at home, same looking thing, but that doesn't work if you wave it out the window!

M6 one you have to pay £2 a month even if you don't use it....

Mines hidden behind a black Le Mans sunstrip for most of the year - on special part of screen near mirror with no heating strips I think

Used to be a lot more 30kph lanes a few years ago

We've all got them now - makes the trip down so much easier.

Stuck on the windscreen behind the mirror works fine

I used one for the first time this year, hands down the best thing for French motorways. The faffing about trying to lean out of the passenger side of the car is a distant memory and I will be definitely using one from now on. Bloody marvellous.

Geez a lot of people seem to have Emovis tags - despite them being one of the most expensive!

Plenty of other providers these days that don't charge an annual fee and have much lower monthly usage fees (at least for the casual visitor). Emovis will cost a new user €23+VAT/existing user €13+VAT just to get through the first toll booth. Other proviers like Fulli would cost a new user €0/an existing user €1.70 to get to the same point.

I've not heard of Fulli, I went with Emovis purely based on visibility of thier product. Whenever I've read about the tag, it's always been Emovis I've seen named. Not being a frequent traveller to France, I'm afraid I just had no idea there was any other choice.
